Buying or Renting your Leads?

That is the golden idea right there. I've said that for years if someone would make an e-bay for used leads where people could list and sell their own leads it would be a gold-mine. Because it's something of value that there are definitely buyers and sellers out there but no system to put them together.

The only downside is it's going to be heavy on the agent-killers. But you have to expect that on used leads.

yea there are a lot of what ifs that goes in to building it but we have been working on it for a while and will only go to market if it stays true to our brand about quality leads... like yourself you know that there are some sketchy apples out there that just try to make a dollar when it hurts others...

hopefully we will have something available sooner than later for you all to test

The mailing list is rented.

Since agent normally doesn't see the mailing list, he/she or IT keeps working the lead, which may or may not be a "plant" to find out if rented list is still being worked.

After the specified time (one monthish), the rented list isn't supposed to be mailed to any more. In case of face to face or phone calling, the "plant" if you contact him/her or IT, will let list owner know you're STILL working the rented list, after the rent expires.

Renters of lists already know these things about direct mailing lists. The list rentee or IMO/FMO averages everything out and comes up with a price per lead.

When a lead, buys, he/she or IT goes on a list of buyers. Drops off the previous list.

To the owner of a list of 1000 mailed names,,,, the list must be worth + - $20,000.

So, if anyone calls it RENT a LEAD, in my opinion , it would be because they know what is going on with a list. i.e. they know the list is rented.

And if the lead is still unsold as before, it goes into the pot or stays in the pot of the list owner because the status of the person on the list is still the same as it was before the list was rented except that the lead returned a return card.

Bottom line to the list owner is, the lead still belongs to him, and he keeps it on list, even though agent keeps as lead and may continue working it because he paid for it as a lead as far as he is concerned. Still, the mailing list is RENTED.

The agent with the lead IS renting it, technically, but no imo/fmo is going to come out and tell the agent. The imo/fmo is going to average the cost of the fine if list owner fines him for having agent continue to work the rented lead. The imo/fmo will take chance I guess that law of averages says agent will be working a lead that is not a "plant" and therefore have chance to get a sale & make everyone happy. If list owner finds out eventually or the mailing house or list renting agency or imo/fmo, they will scrub the list or give credit. Due to wrong info.

Speaking of wrong info, maybe I got that all wrong. It is how it is done with list owners and list books. It is not a secret. Just not worth talking about to most people and is boring unless you're on the happy side of the transaction. You can call a list renter. You can look up the owner of the list. And you can come up with your own letter. And you can do it all yourself. Or not. But if you break the rules, you might get fined. No offense. Interesting topic.

By the way I'm not legally liable for any misinformation, disinformation, offense, half truth , out dated, over rated claim or even a bold faced lie in this here post! In other words you can only sue me for the amount of actual dollars you paid me for what you read!

I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. When I say leads I'm talking about direct mail responses. Not lists.

The whole point of the thread is that if an agent bought direct mail leads from any vendor, let's say Need-A-Lead or Lead Connection or any other vendor and the agent pays the money that covers the mailing and all the costs of generating the lead then I think we all agree that those are his leads and only his leads. If one of those vendors ever decided to re-sell the leads that the agent bought and paid for it would be basically stealing from that agent.

If an agent buys his leads from his up line agency it should be exactly the same thing. If an up line agency re-sells leads that an agent has bought that is a huge breech of trust. That is the point of the thread. Nothing to do with lists.

I don't disagree. I couldn't ever imagine reselling someone's Leads. But these shops that do that, do tell their agents they are doing it upfront.

They use the resold leads to train the new agents coming in. And to make a killing lol. I heard from somebody high up at NAA that they make $270 on every lead developed.

No offense intended but as I see it, the only reason (intended consequence or not) for this post to not be in geeky Lead forum, is to sell a higher price for leads. No offense, please. Not trying to be overly skeptical. But the way of operating this side of the business is

The agents that have been telling me about it seemed to have been surprised by it.

If it's in the lead contract they signed and clearly says they will be re-sold then I have no issue with it. Agents can choose to buy them or not based on if that is an important issue for them. But if it's not disclosed that is the only time that it's a problem.

If agents are willing to pay $30 for a lead that will be re-sold on them that's fine. I never would have thought agents would do that. That's the whole point to the thread. To see if that is even a huge issue to agents these days. There are so many new young agents getting into the biz it seems like they just accept things that us older guys would never have put up with.
