Career Change from Attorney to Insurance Sales

I know many successful lawyers that are in the insurance business. A legal background can be nothing but a plus. Regarding Farmer's. I can't help you. However, with the right guidance and determination it probably is as good a place to start as any. But, if your plans are to sometime be independent, you don't own your book of business. Good luck.

I wouldn't limit myself to Farmer's. If Farmer's is competitive in your area, then by all means use them, but they aren't that competitive in many areas. Additionally, anytime you are "captive" you will be limited and also have requirements that you wouldn't as an independent. The challenge with being independent is that you have no experience and it would be tough to get contracts with the competitive carriers.

One alternative if your pockets are deep enough is buying a local independent agency.

I am looking to change direction and begin selling insurance. I have interviewed with Farmer's and really liked the people and have had Farmer's products in the past. (We now have USAA insurance because we are a military family.)
In addition to selling the standard Home/Auto/Life policies, the manager is encouraging me to study for the securities exam so that I can also work with financial products. However, after reading some of the very unkind comments about Farmer's products I am having serious doubts.

Are there any Farmer's agents on the forum that could give me any positive information about working for the company?

Congratulations, I am a paralegal getting out of law and working on getting my license, I think it will be a nice break. I worked in Estate and Probate so know alot about life insurance policies, securities etc. A much more honest profession I am hoping and less stress. Congratulations!

Has anyone noticed that this person made one post and vanished?

That background should be a natural and profitable fit. Probably more so than the OP's Patent Attorney background. Research ability is nice, But sales ability pays the bills.
