Cleaning Up the FE Forum

Even though I seldom participated in the bickering and fights and at times found them bore some, am I the only one that doesn't see this change as necessarily a good thing? If the bickering bothers some one, they can simply skip over those posts or put the posters on ignore. At times, if you take time to sort out what is being said, you will be able to learn truths about a company, agent, or product that wouldn't be revealed in a kissy, kissy, be nice world.

I think the way the forum has been managed in the past has worked very well and really hate to see it changed. JMHO.

I don't really have a problem with the bickering and fighting, I would call it debating but if they eliminate some of the attacks it will limit the debating. Hopefully they just work at eliminating the personal attacks and not the calling out of those agents and companies that prey on others like LH does to seniors and their agents do to newby's or dumb agents. And someone like JD needs to be able to respond to the lies other post about him.

I think Sam is looking at this from a business perspective and he wants to be able to increase the forum's participation percentage from all insurance agents and if many are staying away because of the the negativity then I can see why he wants to control it.

Well, as soon as you see the direction the post is taking, you can quickly scroll on by. But most of won't because it is kind of like watching the beginning of a 10 car pile up.. you want to see what is going to happen next.

I'm guilty of that. I'll check in on the Fight Club while I'm on hold with a carrier just for entertainment.

With regard to the search function, it takes some sifting and scrolling to get to the meat of a specific inquiry.

Now I have a problem created by the "clean forum" rule. I received an email saying that Obi Wan Kenobi responded to me in the SR LIFE and LINCOLN HERITAGE thread. I click on the link and it takes me to the thread but there is no response. I can only assume it was deleted.. Now, I will forever wonder what was said to or about me... Probably was not near as bad as the things I am imagining...

Mark, you constantly suggest WE make the forum grow. For those of us who don't recruit nor gain income from our posts, why?

Even if you dont recruit or make any money from this group, you should try and help the forum grow. I for one like to thank Sam for everything that he does for us and the more people on the forum the better it is for everyone. I like sharing ideas and learning stuff from other agents. The more people the more I can learn.

I've had a lot of people on this forum help me with ideas and help me become a better agent.

I have nothing against helping the forum grow and I do try to help agents when I can.. Spent over an hour on the phone with an agent a couple of days ago. And, since I no longer recruit in any form or fashion, I certainly don't stand to gain financially but I enjoy helping new agents.

However, I don't really care for the direction the forum is taking with the quasi or perhaps actual censorship of even fairly mundane posts. I see the forum heading in the direction of becoming a plain vanilla place where nothing but the exchange of dry facts are allowed which will lend itself to boredom. If I wanted that type of discussion, I would join TGP.

Very few people have ever been ban or removed from this forum. Sam gives everyone tons of warnings and to talk about censorship, I've seen all kind of thing on this forum. We can be talking about Jesus as my health insurance one day and obama the next. I dont see censorship much on here. I think the rules are simple. Just dont attack anyone. If you have a problem with someone or a post, just report it and let them handle it.

Simple enough.

But it is very subjective what constitutes and attack..Someone tells an outright lie and another person calls his hand on it, is that an attack? Will it move from do not "attack" anyone to do not "attack" any company or agency?

In the past, it was do not threaten anyone which allowed spirited debate and yes, even some attacks to take place. I have been attacked and I don't think I am any the worse for it.. Didn't particularly like it but I didn't cry about it either.. And, for the most part did not respond in kind.

I realize this is Sam's baby and I am here as his guest but the direction the forum is moving is too far toward "dull".
