Cold Calling!

All of my leads are telemarketed leads. I usually order 25 to 30 at a time. I have no problem at all getting enough leads to work. On the average I order every three weeks. The largest area I work is Grand Rapids and when I order in that area I will work there for about 6 months. After that lenght of time you start getting duplicates and the overall lead quality just goes down. I also work the Lansing/Jackson area and work there for about 3 months at a time, which I lke cuz its much closer to home.

I think I have a tendency to work leads longer than I should. Its probably smarter to keep on the move more often and buy more often as well. Working fresh leads is when I make the most money.

This question is for JDeasy. Why is it you prefer not to work in your hometown area?

I worked all of these areas when I lived in MI, along with Detroit and Toledo, I would say my favorite was GR and a couple areas north of there.

No agent comes to mind, but I do know a few agencies.

Yeah, churn and burn agencies making money on the back of the broke agent that's buying their bs.

I don't know what agents want to reinvent the wheel. If they want to be successful at this they should do what the successful agent do.

While there may be some truth to that, the agencies I'm thinking of specifically are not that kind of shop, not by a long shot.

Then why don't they have successful FE agents that are getting business by cold calling?

The primary problem with cold calling is that it takes yet another skill set. If you have more time than money it can be a good way to get in front of folks inexpensively. It's a better division of labor to have telemarketers shake the bushes to get the appointments and for the agent to go work those than for them to learn to sell and generate leads.

An individual agent starting off is usually pretty broke and stressed. Stress + cold calling doesn't really mix well.

There is a pretty steep learning curve in cold calling, so if an agency can have someone doing that for an agent and all the agent has to do is focus on working the leads then they're starting off at half-time with a 7 point lead.

Hey Gordon, where did you work north of Grand Rapids? Its mostly rural up there. I normaly get most of my leads in GR in the ghetto. Lots of good Mexican joints for lunch.. Home made chorizo and tamales. Great for my bad heart

Lol, yea there is a lot of good Mexican restaurants in GR. You should checkout Muskegon and some other small towns on the way there. I sold a good number of policies up that way...plus I love the scenery of Northern MI I miss it a bunch, thinking I will go back in August next year, hit the car cruises then head up north for some golf.

I neveer thought of working Muskegon. Its about 2 and a quarter hours from my home but the population there sure fits my average clientell quite well!

thanks for the tip

If your original reference was to me, Im NOT trying to cold call as I said....I just asked was there anyone whos using a person or company that gen leads that way?? No harm in asking if ppl had a good source out there??

I have a great source for my leads, PHR. I order them this week by Tuesday and they come in the following week. I usually ask for them to come in in batches of ten or so which is no problem. I have never been told they coulcn't get enough leads.

I do change my area after 3 to 6 months or so depending on the population and response, but good workable leads have never been a problem. While they do offer several different types of leads, I always go with the telemarketed leads. I believe a higher percentage of them are seriously interested in buying insurance.
