I insure a lot of apartments including a ton of section 8 housing. My car was shot at in front of a complex in Stockton in 1996. I am greatful for google earth these days as I don't have to go and inspect every property... but I still carry a glock 26 when I am going to look at properties in rougher parts of town. My company car is a black mercury grand marquise that looks like a cop car so I don't have any issues now, the thugs scatter when I pull up.

I've gone into some scary houses and sometimes was very glad that nobody was home.

I've been scared a couple times here in TN accidentally getting told by gps to go down dead end roads ending in a shed and house trailer with "trespassers will be shot on sight" signs.
There are still some spots in TN where they don't necessarily trust people from out of town, and they have some issues with methamphedamines.
