Desktop Computer Needed

Ben, I know we have a few techies on here but to satisfy my curiosity I am wondering what do you need 3 monitors for?

Multi-tasking

DHK thanks that's a helpful link.

Wink I checked Sams Club. Can't get this setup there and I'm looking for the 6 months no interest as well. I'm getting some other stuff there though like a real good all in one laser or whatever eventually. I have to get away from inkjet.

Here's the monitor bracket I'm getting:

I still don't get how you can be looking at 3 different things at the same time from only one pc. I guess I have to get more up to date.

It's not about looking at 3 things at the same time. It's about multi-tasking between various applications that are constantly on the screens. Bill Gates (from what I remember reading) does this:

1 screen: Outlook
1 screen: IE
1 screen: 'other'

Tell me more about the "other."

I wouldn't have got it either till I saw it with my own eyes. Each screen performs a different function. So instead of switching from tab to tab you have stuff/programs running at all times.

It's like a resteraunt. Instead of one guy (the chef) preparing everything, you have your prep cooks, sous chef, server, buss boy, ect. Once you get in the groove it all flows. The chef doesn't have to see the prep guy doing prep. He knows he's doing prep but if he wants to see the prep guy he doesn't have to stop cooking to see him.

Perhaps not the best analogy since I've never owned or worked at a resteraunt lol

This isn't for everybody. I just foresee a lot of multi-tasking in the near future with the direction I'm going and I'm going to be prepaired for it.

I buy a computer about every three years it seems so I want a decent system.

Yes Bill Gates uses three monitors. So does that Dell guy and someone else I read about.

It's not about a new toy for me. I'm into remote control cars and planes oh and beer!!

Again, Mac is a great way to go, short of linux you can't beat the user interface. When I'm on my PC I feel like I stepped back in time 10 years.

You'll probably want to increase the ram. And how good is windows 8? Seems like 7 just came out. Extended warranties... Rip off.

Edit: you might want a better processor if your going to be running multiple programs. Nit dating the one it has us bad, but I question how state of the art Wally world computers are.

Josh - are you running XP, Vista or 7 on that PC? Just curious.

Oh that's another thing. When you order they ask if you want Windows 8 for like an extra $20 or something.
Would you get 8 or just get what it comes with?

Extra 2 years anything happens and that includes power surge, bring it to store they give you another one for $40 warranty charge.

Seen three other computers doing ok (not super) with i3 processors and 8gb. The processor value was like 3,400 on this processor site. That i5 in that machine I'm looking at is almost 8,000. My processor on my current computer is 1,350.

Supposedly that i5 processor version I'm looking at is better than some i7s from what is indicated. The higher the number the better.

It's an i5-3570k.

Newegg site says it doesn't do 'Hyper Threading' so I'm not sure if that is an issue or not. Gamers don't require it. Since I'm not gaming with it I'm not sure if I need this Hyper Threading or not.

Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K

The processor on its own is not cheap. Has pretty good reviews.
