The tax credit is advanceable and refundable. Advanceable means the person does not have to wait until tax filing time to get their money. The govt pays the insurance company monthly, so the covered person only pays their portion of the premium every month. Refundable means they get the tax credit even if they owe no taxes for the year.

However, this woman won't get tax credits anyway if she is eligible for Medicare.

I agree with ann... if she is the only person in the house and on ssdi than she is on at least medicare a and that is a disqualifier for exchange plans....

I based my comment on the fact she was in the house with someone else like a spouse and in that case her ssdi income is slid back in as it relates to his eligibility number...
