FE Mailers

Why don't we all get back on topic and discuss how to work the lead cards? How to over come the objections?

Instead of stating open ended statements and sentence fragments what about telling the rest of us what exactly you say to overcome the objections:

1. "I never filled the card out?"

2. "I was hoping I would receive something in the mail, I don't want no one coming to my house?"

3. "I already have life insurance."

Lets stop the arguing and add something meaningful to the topic. Remember, there are some of us that read this forum looking for helpful ways to overcome objections and get better at our game.

Ron

1. If making appointments by phone: "I understand. A lot of people have said the same thing this week. You know, we get so much mail nowadays I can't remember what I received a few weeks ago either. Shucks, I hate to say it but I really can't remember what I got in the mail just last week. Anyway, I'll show you the handwriting on this card when I come by. Is morning or afternoon best for you?"

2. "We already mailed you something Ms. Jones and you filled it in and mailed it back to us for this free information. Besides, I don't know which plans you qualify for....you may not qualify for anything. Anyway, this will take about 10 min., longer if you have questions, is mornings or afternoons best for you?"

Of course, tele-sales would handle this objection beautifully.

3. "Great, most of the people I speak with do have life insurance. You know, everyone remembers the BIG expenses...things like the funeral home bill and so forth. But it seems like most people forget the small expenses..things like your final phone bill, final utility bill, any charge accounts with balances, etc....and the children always get stuck with all these small bills. Plus, the price of a funeral creeps up in price just like a pair of shoes. That's why people who have done as good of a job as you have usually just add a very small plan to take care of these small expenses and protect them from inflation. They love their children and know it's not fair to leave these expenses for their children to pay. You love your children too don't you Ms. Jones?"

Hope this helps some people. Perhaps JD can share what the famous Tim W. would say in these situations.

Well done thanks - it would be a good idea to have these by the phone when calling. I like the idea you recognize their objection and move right along.

I've got another one for the "I didn't fill anything out" response.

Ms. Smith: I never filled anything out.

Me: Uh Oh! Then we have a major problem because someone has forged your name as there is a signature on it! Would you like to meet me at the police station with this card or would you like for me to bring it to you so you can just handle it on your own? (short pause) Actually, Ms. Smith, it may have been someone you know and I'm sure you wouldn't want to get them in trouble especially if they were only trying to help. I should bring this to you. Would X:XX be a good time for you tomorrow? (response). Good, I'll see you then and we can try to figure out what happened as well as seeing if there is anything else I can do for you.

What do you want to bet they will start changing their tune when you offer to meet them at the police station.

Todd,

Have you used this response?

Here's another:

Perhaps someone else who cares about you filled it out. I've seen this before when a family member or some other beneficiary will send this in for you. Who is the beneficiary on your life insurance?

I like this one. But if Ms. Jones says she'd rather go to the police station....then what?

Acknowledge their objection and move on. Book the appointment, let them tell you at their kitchen table they don't remember sending in the card.

^This. "I understand" is a powerful phrase for an insurance agent. When they tell me they did not send in the card, I always say, "Yes, ma'am. I understand. So were you looking for information on burial coverage for you or someone else you love?" 9 out of ten times, they answer that question and we move towards setting the appointment.
