Finding Square Footage?

Do any of you know of an easy and inexpensive way to find
accurate square footage of homes? I have had several people lately that want HO quotes, but they didn't know the sf. I haven't had any luck finding this information in county records or I simply don't know where to access.

Any help would be appreciated.

If your in NY or CA, try propertyshark. They give comprehensive data and they have a free and paid version.

I believe the free version allows 1 free pull a day. You register by email address so multiple email addresses will get you additional pulls of data.

Ask them if they have an appraisal from the purchase of their home or a refi. That square footage should be more accurate than public records. You should also note the difference between heated square footage and total square footage under roof. If they do have an appraisal ask them if they have done any additions since the appraisal was done. You can also check the county property appraisers website sometimes they even have the footprint of the home you can verify the sketch yourself to determine the accuracy of the public record sketch.

Ok... this may be a little old school. But can't you just measue the length and width of a house? Then multiply the two.

I don't know... maybe that theory is a little too simple. :p
