Florida Med Supp Carriers

I have a question to those agents that sell med supps in Florida. I am located in Orlando,fl. I have never sold med supps, but I understand they can be pretty pricey here when compared to other states. What income range do you guys target when you buy your leads? Can somebody making $12,000 per yr actually afford to pay $200.00 + for a med supp, when they can get a MA plan for less? I would like to sell med supps but I am trying to figure out if their is a good viable market here, and if so, what demographics should I target when I buy my leads.

Wow I thought I was reading a thread from two years ago when I saw that some of you were calling turning 65 lists. I haven't been on here for awhile but I am a senior advisor and unless I have really had my eyes closed in the past few months IT IS AGAINST THE LAW to call turning 65 lists. The last I knew you could only solicit ones who specifically requested info from your company or present clients. So did something change?

You can cold call for med-supps only not MA. As long as your list is scrubbed. I call T-65 in the off season then open it up in Nov. to 66-76. Am I missing something not calling 66-76 in the off season? Most are locked in and I sell Med-supps so T65 is my only market.

how do u contact them?
If you are contrated with MOO, your FMO can provide you with the number. I'm not sure exactly how they have structured it, but my FMO provided me with a direct line to them for the express purpose of purchasing leads under this program.

I don't think anyone has answered the original question of what is another competative med supp company other than MoO and AARP to go through for this new agent in FL

Ok, I will.

American Pioneer always comes out in the highest five (lowest rates.) Their commissions are much better than both AARP and Mutual of Omaha. Plus, their headquarters is right here in Lake Mary, too.

On January 1, Gerber will come out in FL (expecting applications, etc. in October). As everyone else is filing their rate increase for 1/1 (AARP, Mutual, etc.), Gerber's rates will be either THE lowest or 2nd place in Florida. Plus, Gerber Life has the name seniors have grown to trust over the years.

We have all four companies and a system to reach them much faster and more effectively than sitting down, picking up a receiver, and punching in numbers.

The only problem with selling in FL is that Medicare Supplements are expensive. I think a lot of folks move toward Advantage plans because of this. Thoughts?

You're right, in that the Medicare Advantage penetration is currently 29% here in Florida. And, you're right in that the Medicare Supplement premiums are higher here.

What you might not realize, though, is that a significant portion of the population is outside of the major cities. In some of these locations, there is no HMO network = no MA plan available to them. Those that have money and know the difference will always want to go with a Med Supp. Those that do, here, will pay you much higher. Why? Because if their premium is 25% higher than elsewhere, you just got a 25% raise.

So, if you market to the right areas (my telephone you can market anywhere), it's not a problem.
