Indeed and honestly I didn't begrudge them because there was a ton of crap to wade through. Then again, I made sure they understood that until you build your book up these are the things you gotta do.

Life. It is work. Just trying to build those referral relationships and still do enough life business to pay the bills.
I'm not depending on P&C to pay the bills, which is good and bad.
True, however you never realize how bad it is until you do it. And everyone has a limit, there is just so much a person can wade through before they give up. I'm not saying you didn't prepare them, I'm sure you did. I'm saying it so people realize, it really does sap your energy and drive to constantly deal with bad numbers, people who never wanted a quote, or wanted it 4 months ago, or were just entering a contest. If you are new, it is just that much worse because you haven't seen there is a pay off in the end.

I did auto leads with a live transfer service about a year and a half ago. I closed about 20% and retained over half of those for over a year. These were mainly non-standard auto. I ended it when lead quality suffered. It quickly became a "we dial numbers submitted on our website and then blindly ring you when they answer". I was NOT ok paying a premium for that kind of lead delivery.
