You aren't getting the $300 back. It wasn't the company's fault.
Write it off as a business expense.

On those free trials that require your credit card info...it says that you'll be billed so much a month or the annual payment UNTIL YOU CANCEL! Cancel ASAP! I'd think that you're screwed out of what they've got so far.

Reminds me of the time I worked for American Online (AOL) in their member retention department. Remember those free trial disks sent every week in the mail? People would sign up with their credit card and then forget about it. I had many times an irate customer who finally looked at their credit card statements and noticed that AOL's been charging their card $25 per month for the last 3 years! All I could refund was 90 days! Check your statements monthly people!

A policy is NOT a free trial. Another instance of people not being responsible for thier actions....Heck I signed up for a free trial of yahoo personals to respond to an icebreak that came from my future wife...I knew it was unlikely I would be able to follow thier rules to cancel before being charged.

If you used a visa and especially if you used your debit card, you can contest the charges. Your bank will almost always overturn the charges in your favor. Just give them a call. I've done it a few times myself.

I used to sell credit card processing for a number of years. That was actually an objection you would get from merchants that didn't take credit cards. They were worried about contested charges. Because 99 times out of 100 it will not turn out in favor of the merchant.

Having worked for a bank and dealt with Reg E disputes I can tell you these free trials do stick. For the people complaining after paying charges for a year you protection ie Regulation E only gives you 60 days from the statement date to file a dispute.
