Glen Beck Fri. 5 PM EST

Re: * Glen Beck Fri. 5Pm EST

Well ya know, a good doctor can't be living in a ghetto somewhere driving around in a Merkur X4Rti, either. Why not just give them a free education, and then upon graduation/residency/etc. buy them a big old house and a Big Cadillac, too?

Or would that be only for certain types of doctors? Gynecologists get some sporty car and a condo downtown, ob/gyns get a minivan and a 3 bedroom home, proctologists - well, proctologists can fend for themselves with a box in a gutter and no car, since they're used to having to put up with s**t all day anyway.

Just a thought.

The med students were great "Well how do you know we cant make a govt system work" -Quote from one of the students

I loved the idealistic view he had... guess he didn't pay attention in his history classes. History has shown that whenever government tries to run something...even specifically in America... It fails. How many social experiments must be conducted before our entire system collapses.

The Canadians actually have a fairly decent system. It is not the one I want nor is it right for Americans but it is worthy of being questioned and reviewed so I think the med student was just doing valid inquiry. The reform effort could very easily leave us with such a mess that the Canadian system would be an improvement. That is what happened in the some of the guaranteed issue states (mine in particular). The government screwed up the free market so badly that many people want a single payer system or public option now. You may think they would want to go back to free market but it doesnt work that way. Trust me, if the reforms fail, the government will fix it so that insurance carriers and the free market are still the problem.

I also think many of the docs on the program were naive. They think that they can join in on the villainizing of insurance carriers and stay unscathed. They can't. They are just next in the pecking order. Again, take my state as an example. The DOI has told Anthem that they cant have any profit this year. Okay fine. So who you gonna blame the cost increases on next year and just exactly how many new carriers do you think that will attract into the market to increase competition?

With family in Canada. I cannot agree. As I've said before, I will gladly continue to pay my $350 per month for my current plan and access rather than have what my peeps in Canuckville have.

The point on the med. students is that they have never run a business and or dealt with the govt. in terms of medicare, etc. before. They have no concept of what real administrative headaches are or would be?
So ... they can shut their overfed pieholes until they actually know what they are talking about?

This is what gets to me the most. A backwards seek and destroy mission to ultimately get their way in regards to said P. option.

We can only hope that the pubs stay strong on it. They know what Pelosi and pals are up to.

I could go back and count heads (votes), but not counting the doc's who wanted no ins. public / private the majority were NOT in favour of the Public option.

No one but ourselves if people don't raise enough cane and nip this one in the bud.

Right but that is not the point I was making. I am not working the entire issue of whether the Canadian system is best for everyone, in fact my comments were to the contrary. I only pointed to the reality that it has strengths and if we frig the U.S system up even more those strengths will loom larger and we will move closer to single payer.

You are happy with your 350/month but the average family premium in the US is closer to $1200 a month. Despite what Mr. Obama says, premiums are going to go up, not down. So let's say the premium for the family is now $1500 a month. They are now taking a second look at the Canadian system, perhaps they have no coverage now because they couldnt afford it. The fact that you are not, does not change this reality.

We are headed toward single payer over the long haul unless the reforms get costs down. Problem is, the reforms dont address costs.

You're absolutely right. I don't know about 1200 being the average cost ... maybe if you are including group health plans that are paid for to a large degree of course by employers ...?
Why do things have to get as bad as possible before people wake up?
The problem is the public, to a large degree, just sits back and only sees this from a distance. Even more than us within the industry; they don't know what is happening, what is going to happen, or in their case, even what they want to happen. We're all watching this incessantly. They're not.
A lot of them, instead of getting involved just wait and see and hope that things work out in their favour.
"Maybe a Public option will be a good thing ...?" Not the 80 - 85% with coverage, as witnessed by the less than cordial townhalls, but sure, the ones that are on the public teet already, or the ones who choose not to pay for coverage ... why not?
Obviously the current admin. doesn't want to "reform" and get down costs; they want the system to implode, the eventuallity being single payour. Excuse me, I gotta go drink myself into oblivion.

On ABC World News tonight they posted some interesting statistics. For one, only 20% of voters claimed to be Republicans. Wow, I would guess that 2% of those Republicans are right wing neocons----most of them are members of this forum.:skeptical:

Another statistic indicated that most prople are against Obama's health reform movement-----BUT 57% would like a Public Option. Go figure.:goofy:

It is an image game. When people are asked if they want a "public option" the majority say yes. When they are asked if they want a "government option" they say no.

What people think they "are" versus what they "really are" are sometimes different than what they "do". Okay, I know it's confusing, but case in point:
