Health Sherpa

I have sent up 2 apps and the turn around time was excellent.

I had a few questions and Ning answered them himself via their chat line.

So far I am very pleased I hope to never have to deal directly with the marketplace again

Here's the deal fellas. It's not $25 an app.

Quick easy math. 100 apps = $2500

But only 75 pay the bill. so now you have 2500/75 = $33.33 per app (my favorite number... btw... but still too high)

I've got another deal I'm working on now that will only be $5 per app.

I'm still wrapping my head around that you only have 75% paying the bill....

How quickly are the apps appearing in the carrier's portal? That's my main concern. Sherpa to HC to Carrier. That's a lot of systems that can go wrong.

Ning just posted an encouraging message in the Health Insurance section of the forum.

From Sherpa to HC.gov to carrier is about 3 days. Most of it being from HC.gov to carrier.

I'm not shilling for Health Sherpa but my first one went active on August 1st and is already on my Aetna Book of Business, that is exactly what I was hoping for.

In terms of the economics of using HS, if the average premium is $350 per person (probably low), 8% FYC with an average of 2 people per application (33% single, 33% couples, 33% families), it makes the average commission per policy about $56 per month-I will gladly give up less than 1/2 month's commission for the ease of use.

I used it for the first time today. Too easy, really. I'll follow up here with how the process goes.

----------

2 hours later got confirmation from HS that application has been forwarded to HC.gov along with eligibility letter.

Was going to input my first one using HealthSherpa today, but backed off because:
1. Smoker is rated up 50% across all companies/plans. No IL companies rate up 50%.
2. Don't see a way to request a 8/1/2014 effective date. HealthSherpa picks 9/1/2014. No adjustment to this date is available.
3. No way to do a "mock" enrollment to verify (#1 and #2 above) and to see what is sent to the applicant immediately after a successful (or unsuccessful) submission.

Guess I'll just do it the painful (but safe) Healthcare.gov way. sigh.
