Imo that should certainly be the goal.
And it seems that site design affects SEO a good bit. So you think that the two would/should/could go hand in hand. But many on here (and in other circles) seem to think the two are mutually exclusive. As a client I would expect a web designer to at least have a general knowledge of seo and how site design affects it.
My point was more just the fact that it doesnt matter how great your site looks if no one visits it.

what back end cms do you use?
Refinery CMS. It is great. I am not tech savvy. Took me 3 minutes to be up and running. It is so easy. Great user interface. Makes my life easy. Invaluable for me.
