So a client of mine was a victim of property damage due to a police chase.

They only have liability coverage for a very old car. The police was chasing a motorcycle down the street and it lost control and crashed into client's car. the motorcycle was stolen and plates were fake.

The guy gets off bike and runs away.

Do you file a claim against the police department? Wait till they catch the guy and try to sue? Call your own insurance and see if they can sue someone?

What happens here? Is he stuck with the bill?

Who hit what?

Motorcycle hit the clients car? Sue the driver or it would be a comp claim. He might just be stuck with the bill for all practical purposes.

the motorcycle who was being chased by the cops hit the clients car.

they didnt catch the guy.

client has no comp coverage, only liability, so hes looking for someone to pay for the damages.

I think he's out of luck.

its a non fault accident, collision would pay, if they had any.

People want to sue the cops for everything, even insurance agents now.

So if the motorcycle hits a car it's not the cops fault. If the motorcycle had hit a little kid it's not the cops fault either?

Just because these cops have God in their heart, a badge and a gun, shouldn't give the the right to put other people or property in harms way and when they do they she be liable just like everyone else.

I've almost been hit by two cops within the last month driving recklessly with their lights on. One darn near ran me off the road. Came smack out of nowhere.

Two people here were killed over the weekend by a police car that was speeding. A car carrying five people was turning left and struck by a police car. The police said the officer was responding to a call and witnesses said it had no lights or sirens. Some witnesses said it was doing 90 miles an hour.

Pretty scary stuff.

happens here all the time, a good buddy of mine was T-boned by a cop who ran a light at 50mph, the department claim he was responding to a call. but there were witnesses and caught on camera that he didnt have his lights and sirens blaring.

i dont know what happen with the case afterwards, but i think my buddy got a new car either from them or the insurance.

and in regards to filing a claim with the police, if there was a police car chase and the damages were in result of a reckless police chase, it wouldn't be "right" to file with the city?
