If You Only Sell Health Insurance...

Well stated. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. I already have a plan B and trust me, by the time anything negative would be implemented I literally would not skip a beat.

All I have to say is look how fast they passed the $700billion tarp through. They create a crisis that needs immediate action. With all of these umemployed people with no coverage we shall have our crisis.

The 700 billion was passed quickly because such a huge ammount of the political contributions and lobbying came from the companies that benefited from the TARP. Do you think those same people without health insurance have that kind of lobbying and $ behind them to make this whole thing REAL, or do the multi-billion dollar health carriers, who have still made enormous profits in this economy, have the politicians secretly on their side? I truly doubt there will ever be a true healthcare reform in this country. I have a HUGE secret to let you guys in on......(politicians say things to get elected)

"Better learn to sell other products". Quite the opposite actually.

CA SB 2 was a law very briefly and imposed exactly what Obama is recommending. Employers either provide health insurance or pay a penalty to the national plan to provide it. SB2 was pay a penalty to the state to provide. Same same.

When Blue Cross CA came out with "BeneFits" a few years ago, the orginal survey showed over 650,000 businesses in CA that did not offer health insurance. That is a lot!

Under the current system there is no incentive for those companies to provide it. They lose nothing in exchange.

Under SB 2 and what Obama wants, they would get hit with a hefty penalty (like 4-6% of total payroll) to NOT offer it. That changes things drastically.

I see this as opportunity, major opportunity. Yeah, they might have a national GI IFP program for those who are not able to get group benefits, but even then I doubt that the government will eliminate a person's choice to pick a private health plan from an available carrier. It will just be a backup measure. An umbrella to cover people not on group plans.

The opportunity is all of the millions of small businesses nationwide who will suddenly "see the light" and look into setting up group coverage. They will get extra incentives and tax credits from this administration just to do it (and of course not have to pay out a hefty penalty in payroll tax).

I think we are going to be looking at guaranteed issue across the country with vouchers for the poor. "Everybody" gets health care, they aren't going to eliminate the health insurers, limit the doctors, restrict the hospitals, shut down the mcdonalds and force premiums (or taxes) from everyone.

They are going to take the easiest path, just as we have done on every issue the last couple decades.

Guaranteed issue "gives" everybody healthcare. This accomplishes OB's goal. He can claim victory for the people.

It also keeps intact the current providers of coverage and their financial base. We'll still be here, maybe making 5% every year on premium, which will be a shock to some of you, but it does work. Yes, there still are uninsured, but they are by choice.

shut down the mcdonalds

I agree with almost all your theory here... as to guar issues, everyone gets access... except the above statement about McD's.

Even BHO isn't going to get away with taking McD's, et al fast food, away from the masses. If you want to see a freakin riot in the street, try to mess with their BigMac... As much as it may be nutritionally a good idea, it isn't going to happen... Not now, not ever.

Besides, do you wish to be cold hearted and take away these 400K jobs @ McD, and some 13 mil in the restaurant industry in total. Who would this hurt the most...?

You can't address GI without addressing making it mandatory. If not, everyone waits until they get sick then signs up.

It has to be a nationwide version of MA - GI and mandatory with stiff penalties. Hard to pull off in this economy.
