Insurer pay for dead tree removal?

Very tall ash trees in Indiana are being killed by insects. A neighbor can not afford the $3000 quoted to remove one from his property. Is it possible that his insurer might pay for removal of the dead tree rather than paying considerably higher damages when it falls?

Sorry, HO insurance excludes damage done by insects and if the tree blows over in the wind there is minimal coverage (probably 500) if it falls on a structure.

Then he should shop around for other quotes. Maybe just have it felled in sections and left on his property. Then he can cut it into firewood himself or hire a handyman cheaply.

No. Insurance companies don't do that.

They don't. And trees aren't regulated in town.[/QUOTE

Not claiming all places do this. But various places have been given actual grants to enhance the quality of air or maintain community beautification by government institutions and cooperatives. Forest service departments and local governments will also do free tree cutting service that poses threats to humans and properties in case of earthquakes, cyclones or storms.

Also need to understand what insurance does pay for if a tree falls. If it does not hit anything a policy generally pays nothing. If it hit the house but does no damage, it pays to move the tree away from the house. If the tree damages the house, the policy pays to repair the house and move the tree trunk away from the house. In no case does the policy pay to cut up the tree and remove it from the property. If the wood has been affected with pests, it probably has no value to a firewood supplier but it never hurts to ask
