It's Here to Stay....CBO Bomb

Hopefully one of the things Congress will do is to change the grandfathering laws. The assumption that 75% of America will all change insurance plans on January 1st 2014 is absurd. Delays will happen for sure, and if Congress changes the grandfathering laws more Americans will have the opportunity to "keep their plan if they like it".

Yes, but let's see what actually happens to the rates on those grandfathered plans.

At least you will have a temporary fallback position to give you time to sort things out. Hard to say how GF plans will shake out long term under PPACA.

I expect it needs to be addressed. It's all about the QHP actuarial value thing.

I know CA intends to have an initial OEP beginning October 1, 2013 with a full six-month run. They know it's going to take a lot of work to get everyone into the initial phase.

And of course it runs right over 2013 AEP for Medicare (sigh). Things will be busy I can guarantee that! And I am quite happy for it!!!!

Hopefully GF plans will not enter the rate explosion that happens with closesd medicare supplement pools. No new people going in, claims going up, population of pool getting older; all making rates increase.

Seriously, I'm thinking there must be an industry I could succeed in, which requires a lot less research and knowledge-base than this!

Wait until we have to sit through exchange training class with the Navigators and non-agent DBAs ;)

Some good points in this thread.

1.) Perhaps some sort of supplemental business will arise just like in the Canadian market? Good point Ann.
2.) Dave, really appreciate your detailed view of the situation. I hope you are right.

Regarding Mr. Katz, ask some of the older agents in my firm here about Alan.

...and Mr._Ed, are you conerned with the state the LTCi business is in these days? Here in Cali, it ain't looking so good.

Lastly, do you think that International Health or Health Tourism (not sure what you call it) will become more popular as ObamaCare starts to reduce or restrict care?

Regarding medical tourism, if the costs start to escalate and the lines start to get long, why not travel to Thailand or S. America and enjoy a different country while you recover! I have heard of several people who have done this, but none that I know of first hand.
