Marketing.......on a Budget.....

Pick up the phone and call some people.

It doesn't get much cheaper and effective then that.

You've got to HONESTLY answer some real questions for yourself.

1) Are you ready to be in this business, along with your FULL TIME gig.

2) marketing WILL cost one or the other
a) Money ( how much are you willing to part with, especially sense you're working you won't be available to be a picky or involved in mico-tracking how you're money is sent....(just not humanly possible to do so and work and sell insurance .....you'll have to spend it and pray))

b) Time......If you have have the money to buy your way in, the only other option is to consume time with sweat equity activities.

That's it kid.....it's just like dinner....
Buy it or make it

***Don't know if 'little money to invest' means you have just a little bit of scratch or you're being coy and really have the chips to 'invest' and wait it out.

Either the way, you've got to chose your poison.;)

Nawww, when I say little I mean little lol....I have some savings a enough to fund the virtual office and pay e&o insurance for 4 months and enough to get the initial basic marketing stuff and may $1000- 1500 after that....by month 4 I want the insurance biz to be self-sufficient..... even if its just even if its just breaking even....

Imho you really need to think long and hard. I am new to the business but have owned and started small businesses in the past. you would be better of buying dividend stock in a retirement account unless you have time to devote to this business.

I completely agree with Gemini...marketing will either cost you time or money. But, if you are looking for a few cost effective methods of marketing, feel free to check out my blog. It's a marketing blog geared toward insurance agents. And, so just it's clear, I make no money off the blog but I enjoy being able to share out of the box ideas with other agents. It's at www.njbusinessinsurancelady.wordpress.com

Whatever you decide, best of luck to you! And, if you figure out how to run a successful, completely self-sufficient agency in 4 months (or even a year!), please come back and share your wealth of knowledge with us all.

Unless selling for UHC/AARP Med Supp companies that I am aware of do not require E&O insurance.

The three methods of marketing you mentioned, car magnets, door hangers and business cards will be pretty much non productive.

I've been selling Med Supps for a while and the easiest, most productive, cost effective way of me getting new clients is to get a list and give them a call.

I have not discovered an "easy" to sell insurance and that includes Med Supps.
