Marketing.......on a Budget.....

agreed, doesn't get much cheaper and more effective than calling... when you've made some money, get some mailers, make money, put half of it back into more mailers, make more money, half of that, more mailers, and eventually you'll be so busy you won't know what to do, and won't be spending hours personally making phone calls....

last week I dropped 2050 mailers (spent $660 approx.)but in 3 days have sold 11 med supps, 1 100k spwl (we'll see if it gets issued), and 3 home/auto combos.... still have 10 leads left... i know its a lot to spend, but my time is more valuable in front of customers than on the phone... then you can pay people to telemarket for you

pay them 20/hr once you get that going, and everyone is happy

Unless selling for UHC/AARP Med Supp companies that I am aware of do not require E&O insurance.

The three methods of marketing you mentioned, car magnets, door hangers and business cards will be pretty much non productive.

I've been selling Med Supps for a while and the easiest, most productive, cost effective way of me getting new clients is to get a list and give them a call.

I have not discovered an "easy" to sell insurance and that includes Med Supps.

I Actually sold med supp for UHC/AARP, I was pretty successful, but is was in a call center environment ... I made good money but is I was in the field I would have made better money....In my personal experience I have never had a problem with the selling side of insurance my biggest obtacle I feel will be the business side being that I have never sold as an independent agent

I completely agree with Gemini...marketing will either cost you time or money. But, if you are looking for a few cost effective methods of marketing, feel free to check out my blog. It's a marketing blog geared toward insurance agents. And, so just it's clear, I make no money off the blog but I enjoy being able to share out of the box ideas with other agents. It's at .....

Whatever you decide, best of luck to you! And, if you figure out how to run a successful, completely self-sufficient agency in 4 months (or even a year!), please come back and share your wealth of knowledge with us all.

Thanx! I will definitely check out your blog ...."Whatever you decide, best of luck to you! And, if you figure out how to run a successful, completely self-sufficient agency in 4 months (or even a year!), please come back and share your wealth of knowledge with us all."lol we'll see...

What kind of mailer do you use if you dont mind me asking?

Just a generic "Tired of your medicare supplement premiums going up?" You can change any time during the year, all plan f s are the same...fill out the card for more info...

The more specific the mailer, the lower the response, but they ll be targeted so you aren t wasting time getting in front of suspects

A refreshing perspective. Most of the advice one here seems to center on "get an appointment with any warm body, show up, throw up on 'em - and pray".

agreed! don't think brand new people should be mailing that specifically until they know what they are doing, but nothing is more valuable than my time, and as with most people with a little experience, I can make a lot more in an hour with the right activities, and can pay others (telemarketers, csr's, the post office) to do the bs stuff that comes with the territory

The best thing you can spend your money on is a nice pair of comfortable shoes and hit the streets. But do it for Life, not Med Supp.......

You can easy write $1,000 in AP per day if you hit the streets.

Door hangers, magnets etc etc are a waste of money.......makes you feel busy, but the returns will be squat.

You favor Life I favor Med Supps. In my personal opining, getting a list of T65 people and knocking on their door as opposed to calling them on the phone like virtually every other agent is doing could prove to be a lot more successful.

Almost every senior believes that they need something in addition to Medicare. There are 11,000 baby boomers turning 65 every day of the year for the next 18 to 20 years. There will be no shortage of people who may need what you are selling.

I think a lot more so than those who may perceive the need for additional life insurance.

But as I said, I've been very successful with Med Supps. There are virtually no "moving parts".

There are a few med Supp companies that require E&O. I know moo does and maybe forethought. I don't pay much attention to it.

Nope! Neither MOO nor Forethought require E&O to sell their Med Supps. Forethought doesn't even require it to sell their FE plans.

If you had your contracts with me you would have known that Mike. :D
