My First Week in the Wild World of FE

Why is that?

It's funny, most of my clients are female and the men tend to not buy...

Im no "Veteran", but Id have to image Rearden says that based on the conditions we work in sometimes....most women (and a lot of men) would never go & see the ppl we see!

If thats not it, I have no idea!

I am not a FE vet but I think he means many women might not feel either comfortable or safe in the situations: i.e. dogs, cars, filth, roaches, vermin, etc.

Think what Rearden may have in mind is situations such as what happened on my wife's first and last FE field call.

She had gotten her license and was going to work in the field with me. We were running a lead on an older gentleman out in the country. We drove up a very long, narrow, rutted, gravel driveway to get to the house. As pulled up to the back of the house there were old hound dogs and chickens everywhere in grass bare yard.

It was in the middle of summer and the temp was in the 90s. The door on the house and the screen-less windows were wide open and the old guy came out on the back porch to greet us. He was dressed in a pair of old overhauls with no shirt or shoes. He invited us in and as we passed throuhgh the kitchen, there was a chicken up on the table eating the crumbs off the plates. When we got to living room, he had to shoo dogs, cats and chickens off the furniture for us to have a place to sit. Thank goodness the furniture was vinyl (you never want to sit on upholstered furniture in these situation if you can help it). The vinyl had a greasy feel to it and I sat on the very edge of the couch. The urine odor was very strong throughout the house.

I did a quick presentation but did not make a sale. As we got into the car, my wife said, "I am ready to go home". I told her we had a couple more leads in the area but she said, "You don't understand. I am ready to go home..NOW!" She never made another field call.

FE tele-sales might have been what she needed.

Naw.. decided she would rather raise grand kids and bake cakes..
So TRUE , I may go back to being a housewife from Alachua county...... or begin my next phase of FE .. DOMINATING TELESALES!!!!!

For the most part it's true that women chose to not do this business. Not that they can't. My wife would never do what I do or go to the homes I go to. She will tell you that herself.

But, the ones that chose to stay the course and not let that stuff bother them seem to do very well. One of the best FE agents I know is a lady in Chicago. She does about $175,000 ap every year with no leads. Year before last she was RNA's top agent not only in production but also for persistency at over 94%.

There's a lady in Jersey that been an agent for many years and was just about out of the business last Oct/Nov. She had stopped her leads and was going to go back to school to get another degree. She has 2 or 3 already. Instead she decided to redidicate to FE sales and she is sitting at about $95,000 ap Jan 1 thru today.

I hired a lady in Detroit back when I was working there and let me tell you, she was tough as nails, but you had to be to work Detroit. Bottom line, she was my best agent and kicked my butt almost every week. She got more referrals because most will trust a lady that does the client right as most of the time nowadays on insurance it is the women that convinces the husband or makes decisions especially as times have changed.

I think the key for a lady in FE as many mentioned is can you handle the situations that you may encounter. If you can, then you have a distinct advantage over a man. Also, there is no glass ceiling you have to worry about, you get paid the same as a man.

I think you are right. If a woman can hack it she has an advantage.

Well, it is never a dull moment that is for sure, but I have no trouble getting in the home (I just get my leads and door knock) and I can usually get in homes cold ,too. My biggest challenge is getting faster getting in and out cuz these folks tell me EVERYTHING..
HAVE AN AMAZING , Monday
