Name Change

A friend of mine who is a psychiatrist changed his name when he got married to a hyphenated name. After 20+ years he is divorced. Guess what his name is back to what it was originally. :swoon:

Ouch :( For the record, Lasseter is my current middle name. I'm moving it to the end and dropping the "Perry." The lady pal will be taking "Lasseter" as well.

I kind of like simple names to pronounce... Nick Perry is a simple and easy name to remember; good for clients to assimilate.
Each to his own. You must be young.

You could drop the first name and move your last name to the front. That opens up a wide range of options.

Perry Como.

Wait, that might be taken.

Perry Mason.

Taken, but not used any more.

Perry Perry Chicken.

Might get you a free meal at one of those fancy restaurants.

I guess my dislike of everything Prince has done since he went nuts with his name influenced my post.

I used to feel the same way about the guy... until I read an article after the fact, about the ruckus over his name; going from Prince to no name, and therefore referred to the Artist formerly known as Prince.

A record label or other business association owned the rights to the name Prince, not him. When it was time to sever ties, he could no longer use the name, for X period of time. So rather than try to reinvent himself as The King, or any other name, he decided that he would have "No Name", and therefore be referred to as "The artist formerly known as Prince". This owrked, because anyone who cared knew who he was by that name, and most imortantly it did not violate the terms of the contract. When the protection period expired, then he is back to Prince... no longer formerly known as...

I have also read that he is quite an astute business mind... After reading that this was not a publicity stunt, but something that was necessary because his name was taken from him, then I had a different view on the manuever. Of course this is as best I recall from an article that I read, and I wouldn't stand by the above as fact...

In tis business with contracts running thru IMO's, and occasionally having to wait out writing biz with a certain company in order to sever ties, it is essentially he same issue as Prince, although it seems to pay a lot less in most cases.

Why not just try for sainthood then you can be like Cher, Liberace, J-lo (OK, maybe that is two words), but any way, you could just be St. Nick.

Best idea yet...

Go the "self-aggrandizing" route that many attorneys and academics take: N. Maximilian Lasseter.

Maybe a good idea if you are trying to sell insurance to the snooty blue-blood crowd... but your avg auto mechanic may not want to deal with someone who they perceive is .... doing whatever you said Moon.... to himself.

BTW, Is that legal to do in public...?

Nick, why would you want to change a famous surname? Is your family related to the famous Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry who on board the flagship USS Niagra defeated the British fleet on Lake Erie during the War of 1812? He also opened Japan to the rest of the world.:1rolleyes:
