New to FE, haven't found home yet, grandkids question

Someone posted some rates for insuring grandkids. $3.50 a month etc,,, My question:
what /why would a grandkid be insured? isnt that wasteful? do agents promote grndkids to be insured? do you say its a good idea? how could it be a good idea? thanks...

Grandkids die too . . . Somebody has to bury them.

If I were building a book Child policies would definitely be part of my prospecting. It is very rare that a child policy becomes a one of sale in a year or two's period. Same with child riders.

One of my companies had a T-25 child policy. $20,000 or $30,000 term to age 25 policies. for something like $20 or $40 annually. Convertable to 5 Xs at age 25. Man, I loved those. Same with Child riders.

I remember running a debt back in the early 80's for Liberty National.
Loved it when I heard about a new birth, always an easy sale.
Grand maw would pay, or she would make the son or daughter pay.
Easy sale and stayed on the books.

Funerals were also an easy sells..
If someone in the family, or neighbor passed.
You could count one making a few easy sells that month.

I had thought of doing just that Wino.
Marketing to grand parents for the grand kids.
Then working on the parents, and grand parents on a regular
basis to make them clients as well.
Might be cheap marketing.

Yeah, what got me thinking on it was a service call.

A client called about her policies and a policy for her new grandchild. As I was looking through the file to refresh my memory of her I found she was a child term policy that her grandmother had put on her. Since then the grandmother became a client, a claim, I converted her term at age 25 to $100,000WL, wrote her and her husband term plans and children policies, the husbands mother and sister's family. Now will write the new grandchild child and hopefully the new mom and dad and his family.

All from an orphan case that I wrote a $40. Annual child policy.

Now, I am cutting back some and just cherry picking the ripe low hanging fruit. I still know how to carry and climb a ladder if I need to, but I just don't want to.

My thinking is I am going to touch X number of clients per month. Though phone, email and snail mail. Probably going to use one of my old fashioned 'do you know' reply cards. And enclose a piece on child riders or polices. I would like to have a conversion with a burial client that includes a small upgrade to their policy to cover inflation or a grandchild gift and also make sure the babies are covered while they are young. $400 - $600 AP is not going to make me a big dog, but as an old dog I prefer to watch the young dogs run in the sun chasing chickens from the shady porch and have my food and water brought to me.

I am just an order taker now I guess.

I contracted with United American. After I received their kit, it did not look like there was anything I could use other than their Juvenile WL and their "free" Accidental Death.. on a 5 year old female, the premium for $10k is only $3.97 and $25K is $7.42.. Permanent WL coverage at a premium that is less than MoO's kids plan. Designed for grandparents to be the applicant without parental signature but parents can buy it. Put up to 5 kids on one app. Commission 105%..

The other plan is $3K Accidental Death each on the parent(s) and $1 K on all young'uns. No premium the first year. At the end of the year, they receive a notice in the mail for $10 for another year. If they don't want to keep it, they just trash the notice and they are done with it. Commission is a whopping 0%.

An agent is not going to get rich writing these plans but I would think they make good conversation starters to get an agent in the door to sell other products. However, if you write 5 kids at $7 each, that will be $440 first year commission so that pays for your time.

Doesn't AmAm have a similar accident plan? I see an application on their website but can't find any info on it.

I love this business. It's soooo easy when you have the right mindset... but it's sooo hard, when you don't! The biggest problem with agents that have issues, is always that silly thing between their ears!

Have a killer week everyone and don't take any BS...
Doug, I watched one of your videos this morning.. Are you still F2F or are you phoning it in now?
