New to Insurance and this forum

Marcus,

Far be it for me to say anything bad about Assurant - I'm one of their top GA's.

However!

Maryland HSA 40 male, 40 female, 2 kids: $302
Tampa FL HSA 40 male, 40 female, 2 kids: $590

Assurant is almost $300 per month less expensive here!

As you can see, Humana and GR are not "low" in Tampa - Assurant is high! They are totally out of the market there compared with their rates in other states.

You are selling Assurant in arguably one of their worst markets in the country.
Once again you are comparing costs and NOT comparing coverages. All the agents where i'm at do really well here in florida. I'm a newb and have lots to learn. Do you agree that Assurant has arguably the best major medical coverage available?

You're either going to:

Listen to people making overrides off you
Listen to more senior people who don't make anything off you

Put the Kool Aid down. $25 mill is a sales gimmick. Assurant, while properly priced in many markets in the country, are totally out of whack in FL.

Fine if you want to continue doing what you're doing but you came here for advice from senior agents and you're getting it.

If you choose to disregard it that's fine to - but you know. You can continue to only offer Assurant but you're screwing your clients. If you want to make a living screwing people then be my guest.

I'm out.
Look, I apoligize if i'm coming off wrong.... I know you have TONS of experience and know ALOT. I will check into the suggestions you have made. I don't mean any disrespect.

#1 - You obviously are not listening to what these senior agents are telling you.

#2 - There is no such thing as a broad "best coverage for everyone". Every single client is different.

#3 - When I first started in this business, I started with a company who said "World has the best coverage available. Your client will be best covered. They are also very competitive in the market place.

Guess what... World is over priced here in Michigan. Their coverage is not better than any of the other carriers here. The reason they were telling me this is BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO UP THEIR OVERRIDES! The more World their agents sell, the more $$$$$ THEY MAKE.

I like the fact that you believe in what you are doing, and it truly sounds like you want to do what's in YOUR CLIENT'S best interest. But man... take a step back, and listen to what you are being told on here, instead of what you are being told by someone who has THEIR BEST INTEREST in mind instead of yours/the clients.

It's great that agents at this company are making money. People also make money selling United American, Mega, and working with NAA. That doesn't mean they are doing what is in their clients best interest.... Once again, it usually means they are doing what is in THEIRS.

Not even in the top four. Right now:

1) Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida
2) HumanaOne
3) UHC/Golden Rule
4) Aetna

I spreadsheet all the major players for coverage/benefits - both "copay" type plans and HSA compatible...

There is very minimal difference between any of their coverage(s).

Ok, we'll try this again:

Humana and Golden Rule have oustanding coverage that matches in every way to Assurant.

However, Florida is simply not a competive market for Assurant. It's sad but true. Some states, like the mid-atlantic area (VA, MD, PA) Assurant is decently priced.

In other states they simply do not want the market - Florida is one of them.

You are with an outfit that only makes money when you write Assurant - so let the brainwashing begin.

If you love Assurant then my suggestion is to get a non-rez license and sell in a state where they're competitive.

Ethical Agent my prediction is you will feel differently in a few months. Why do I say that? Because I have been lead down the primrose path by at least three different outfits. They all told me great things but then the reality became obvious to me after I was there a while. One of the biggest mistakes that newbies make in the insurance business is to not do due diligence and figure out where they want to be in this business and where offers the best chance to reach that. IO think it is a mistake to totally discount input from people who have no reason to not want you to succeed and who do not profit from what you do or don't do.

I was told that I can only offer the products that my agency offers. I offer Assurant 1 Deductable plan, Maxlife, Core med max 25,000,000. It has AIG supplemental deductible insurance which kick's in when an accident occurs. It really like these plans and believe in them 100%. Anything that I should be aware of???

If the premiums in Florida are anywhere near the premiums in Texas, you will starve to death trying to sell Assurant.
Get off the Kool aid and use common sense. People do not care if you have the best coverage in the world if they cannot afford it. I like to sell Assurant as well, but as the price is around 90% higher than ANY other company in Texas, I simply don't sell it.
Just keep in mind that your "Trainer" makes his living from your production, so he has a vested interest in pushing Assurant if that is all he has to sell.
You have had a lot of very good advice from this thread, and you would be well advised to take it, and act on it.

Assurant is more expensive however it provides the most coverage per dollar than any other i have seen so far.

And how many policies have you reviewed so far?

Can't be too many.

From what I have learned Humana has loopholes everywhere in their policies. It doesn't cover squat when it comes to cancer ,serious illness, or organ transplants. $5 mill. is nothing when it comes to these types of problems.

"From what I've learned . . . "

You have learned nothing.

Who are these guys? Former Mega agents.

Rather than listening to BS why not read the policies.

Start with the Time plans and their Rx copay + coinsurance. Bad deal, especially on Core Med.

Please show me the the "cancer, serious illness, organ transplant" exclusion in the Humana plans.

Here's a heads up. You won't find it.

Why?

It isn't there!!!!

How many claims have you handled that got anywhere close to $25M?

My guess is none.

I have been doing this for over 30 years. Largest claim I have had was $2.5M.

Some claims, notably head or spinal cord injury, can eventually top $5M but by the time they get their they are off the major med and on Medicare.

So what are you going to do at this point?

My guess is to ignore the advice and direction you have been given by folks who do not have a financial interest in steering your wrong and listen to Rev. Jim Jones.

Go out there and write a lot of business. Paul will love coming behind you and replacing those plans.

Then how will you handle the charge backs?

Singing lessons over.
