Rob, I do think Obama has our best interests in mind. The U.S. government has many faults, but it is still the best country in the world.

Supply and demand, and the free market work best. If the $6/hr w/no benefits folks are dissatisfied, don't they have the freedom and opportunity to upgrade their skills and seek better paying positions?
You hit the nail on the noggin moon; upgrading skills... the problem is the low level of education and this Gov't safety net in Amer today. Most folks simply don't see the need, and they don't have time cause Oprah is coming on soon. We all settle for what we are willing to settle for, nothing more and nothing less. Opportunity abounds in this country, even today, but the avg Amer again isn't willing to inconvenience themselves to dig in and get-r-done.
Except for the little fact/myth that no one makes $ 6 hr, really. Maybe that is part of the problem too... The reward for doing less or nothing has gotten too great. Here is my experience with something for nothing... I have several innner city properties. When I have a vacancy, and field applicants, I am utterly amazed at the total comp that some of these folks receive... food stamps, medical, rental assistance, school lunches, monthly stipend... The last batch of folks that I dealt with recently, the avg comp that I figured they received was equivilent to 65-70K of earned income, in order to replace what is FREE to them. Something wrong with this, cause this group of folks is way better off doing nothing than lots of folks that are working. So we have killed the incentive for many to aspire to do better.
These gov't decisions to de-incentive-ize (if that is a word), the avg Amer to aspire to do great things, has dumbed down our society. They have destabilized the free mkt system, and we are seeing way more of it currently with our Treas Dept handing out bailout funds. wow, where are we headed...?
Does our Gov't really want folks to be dependent or independent from the gov't teat...? Their power comes from dependence, not independence... so there is your answer. What will make us all more dependent on the Gov't...? Univ Healthcare.

You will never, ever, hear a peep of criticism against the money paid to sports and rock stars. I personally don't feel that someone should be paid $6 million to hit a ball, for God's sake. But that is just me and I don't have a problem with what someone else thinks hitting a ball is worth.
I do have a gripe against liberals and the liberal press for not ever having the guts to make any comparisons. They just are too heavily invested in the Hollywood bunch to ever make that point.

Sportsnutt, there are programs that were designed to help people, and they do. I hate it when people "work the system" Than it does not work the way it is supposed to.

Hmmm . . . I find it hard to believe that someone with an ego big enough to want to run a country is really looking out for me.

Stop worrying about things that are out of your control. Vote - that's the best you can do.
You want to help others? Get as rich as you can get - then you can do a lot to help other people. You can't help others get out of a hole if you're in the hole with them.
Live below your means and save.

AD: Again, there is no such thing as a $ 6 hr employee... really. I have employed 100's, and 100's of ppl over the years (restaurants), which weren't highly paid, skilled folks but they made lots more than 6 bucks an hr. Nobody that is worth their salt makes 6 bucks hr... but I will conceed that there are poor folks out there, not making a high income. Even those folks, if motivated, can find the time... and there are programs available... Lord knows there are programs, for them to retrain, or get trained.
The system IS designed to be worked, trust me. It is set up so that folks do take advantage of it... these folks dragging down all the comp = to 60-70K, those bennies are not them taking advantage, they are just offered and avaliable. These are single parent families with kids and there are subsidies for them to live on, and they are so vast that there is NO way for them to replace these subsidies. I call that captured into the system. The system IS working the way is is supposed to work, but it is a very poor design model. FAILURE written all over it.
