You ever see that Mike Murdoch? "God will not release what's in his hand until you release what's in your hand." What a character! That guy could sell glasses to a blind man. But I've recently discovered Jimmy Swaggart's gospel music. Not really a prosperity preacher, but the way he can "tickle the ivorys" and sing? Huge talent.
Legend has it that Swaggart, a very young and poor family man (had to resort to handouts to even put a roof over his family's head), was offered big money to sign with Jerry Lee Lewis' record label's newly formed gospel division. Lewis was his cousin and was already banking $20k a week (in the 1950's!). But Jimmy turned the offer and much needed money down, saying he needed to stay true to his calling to preach.
Even if one isn't a Jimmy Swaggart fan and I am not exactly a holy roller myself, it is hard not to be touched by his music. Just beautiful. And despite the fact the man is pushing 80, he and his crew still put on a great show. I'm thinking that just like Frank Sinatra, his voice has probably only gotten better with age. I just tune out his rants about how all Catholics, Jews, Mormons, etc., etc. are going straight to hell, no questions asked.
Considering how much Jerry loves his cuzzins(he married his 13 year old cuzzin)he's lucky that Jerry didn't have sexual relations with him.
Jimmy Swaggart's as much of a Holy Roller as Jim Bakker.
