Random Thoughts, Ramblings, Ideas, Questions, Etc..

The Government is pushing companies closer to the end of the plank. Wellmark Blue Cross of Iowa must see this heavy-handed ACA enforcement as further confirmation that they're doing the right thing by not participating in the state exchange for 2016. How's this for insurance company candidness... "Wellmark also announced Monday that it will ask for a 26 percent to 28 percent rate increase for the 30,000 Iowans who have ACA-compliant off-exchange insurance plans through the company. Wellmark said that, in 2014, those policyholders used more health care services than it had expected. The company said 135 members had signed up for coverage, used "several million dollars" of health care services, then terminated their policies. Source: Wellmark again opts not to join ACA exchange

If only Democrats were warned about these types of issues prior to passing the law. Surely they would have decided against passing it. On second thought....

I'm seeing 28% to 34% policy anniversary rate increases on my BCBS-IL policyholders who purchased their plans prior to 1/1/2014. It's crazy.

But even with the increase, these grandmothered and grandfathered plans are still 20% lower than a comparable BCBSIL 2015 policy.

Oh wait in the ACA they should have put the ACT saying that carriers can not have rate increases so that HHS could implement this into law. Also they left out firing all the actuaries. They don't need to pay agents any more commissions. Why did they need to pay actuaries anyway?
Those darn actuaries are causing all these rate increases...lets get rid of them too! :O )

My kids are pissed off..........they decided not to get jobs and pay taxes due to your president's health law. With no protections, the off exchange market may implode in next couple years.

Who will have coverage in 2017? ................ those under 200% FPL and those above 5,000%

Shouldn't the word "government" below be replaced with the word "taxpayer"?

Steep premium hikes expected on 2016 exchange | Healthcare Dive

As Investor's Business Daily notes, these increases would be a shock for anyone who doesn't receive subsidies. However, the majority of those who do get subsidies will be protected from the increases because they pay a fixed percentage of their income, and it's the government that will be left to pay the difference.

What are your clients expecting in AZ and FL? I've been passing out 15-20% increases forever. Indy and group. And we already have much higher rates in TX.

I anticipate continuing to play with networks/benefits. But my reality is about 60% of my clients are on the lowest cost PPO without a subsidy. They aren't doing anything. They think HMO is a 4 letter word.

Law of numbers. I can handle explaining 20% on $400, but clients can't handle 20% on $1000

Yes, the word government should be replaced with the word taxpayer. Which translates into about half those who are of tax paying age. So not only do we get to pay the full cost of our much higher priced insurance, but we also get to pay for others to have very low cost and high benefit insurance.

Awesome!!!

all subsidy clients will be on HMO's four letter word or not....

all people between 400-? will be the new uninsured class

all rich people will be on ppo off exchange plans

broken record

I had "bitch and moan" on my 8-track tape playing in the background
