So I hear Cigna is going to

Wow - if it's as if Cigna's the only carrier in the individual market. If you don't like their latest comp plan then simply put your business elsewhere.

AllenChicago;285741I'm surprised we haven't seen some mergers and/or exiting of the business by the smaller health insurers yet. [/quote said:
AC's book taken over by GR. Mercy Health Plans (small carrier, but that's what we're talking about initially here, right?) bought out by Coventry. There will be a max of 4 carriers left when we usher in 2014. We are already seeing a number of different strategies being implemented, and a year from now we will see which ones are working and which ones aren't.

As long as Cigna is going to separate their block by offering Child Only plans, this could be the most brilliant move made so far. They can justify huge increases every year with the claims experience that will be on their books, but they will only have to increase those child only plans. That will lead to them being VERY uncompetitive on the child only side, and more competitive in the non-GI market. While UHC, Humana, Blue, and everybody else that does away with child only has to raise their rates across the board to make up for all these GI kids mixed up in their regular block, Cigna will be segmented.

I am assuming that is their plan, at least. Of course it could backfire, and they end up getting no broker biz at all, but in this crazy world it's going to take some out of the box thinking to stay afloat.

Only until mid-August. From a recent e-mail:

• Child Only Applications- As of 8/14/2010 HumanaOne will no longer offer child only quotes. Pending quotes will be honored with effective dates prior to 9/23/2010.
This has now been reversed, btw.

H1 is pulling a John Kerry move? They were for the withdrawal (child only) before they were against it?

If you have business with Cigna, and particularly if you have young families, then you are at risk.

Fubar aside, if they are on a non maternity plan they're not necessarily going to come running to you once the child is born. Some get added much later for a variety of reasons.

There's no way to spin this as inconsequential, if you've written any business with Cigna.

Just send every uninsureable kid the to govt plan and things should work it's self out......

That's my thought. Also, once 2014 hits, I'm sending as many unhealthy people that way as possible.

If you have 5 clients that you keep a steady watch on, then that should work out fine.

If you have hundreds and some call the carrier directly to add family members, because they don't want to "bother" you, then you could have some trouble.

Before this change, it was like wow, that's nice, my commission went up and I didn't even know it.

Now it will be like wow, that's upsetting, my commission on a family of 4 disappeared, great. Yes, this is very positive.
