Re: Average Insurance Agent Salary

When i started 5 years ago my boss told me i would be making 70,000 in 2-3 years. Well I am still making the 18,000 base pay and last year i made 5,000 in commission. I work a hard 40 hours a week and am trying every angle that I can think of to get new clinets.

I appreciate your honesty about your lack of success. If you're putting in an honest 40 hours a week someone is hustling you and not giving you much support. You should probably talk to some of the better p&c performers and look at adding other lines to what you sell.

Re: Average Insurance Agent Salary

I would say the avg salary is closer to around $38,000.

There is about 89% wash out rate in the first 3 years.

In the life and health field depending on location a good goal in the 1st three years could be about $50,000. To hit that you need to have some connections or be a kick ass closer over the phone on Individual sales. It will help if you have a sales background. Even this being said to be a rookie right now in the field would be tough.

As for the post of the agent working 40 hr a week making under $25,000. I would ask how much face time are you having with potential clients?
I would recommend that you get involved with multiple networking groups where you are the only PC agent. That way you could pick up some business and build some relationships.

You should never have to convince someone to buy something they either want or need. That can lead to buyers remorse, if they even buy from you at all.

"A person convinced against his will is of the same opinion still."

You need to become a better fact-finder and help people come to their own realizations, not yours.

When they say no or not interested----move on. Don't waste your time and theirs.

Maybe their not interested in buying from you, but still interested in buying (from someone), figure out why and correct it.

This is the exact quote I thought of when I said that, Dale Carnegie rocks!!

There are ripe red cherries, green cherries and rocks. Rocks are everyone with no need, no money, can't qualify (health issues), and aren't the decision maker. You need to find these things out at the start and throw out the rocks. Green cherries satisfy these qualifications but can't pull the trigger now for various reasons. Those you need to file away for later contact. My guess is that you ask the question above because you are not qualifying and you are trying to sell green cherries and rocks.
