The Door Knock Life

Haha! I should throw away my ties. These days I really only need one suit and one tie for the occasional funeral!
I have probably 100 or more. I wear one on Sunday morning. Have thought about going back to wearing one when I door knock.. particularly if I am cold canvasing.

I have worn one for cold canvassing, and always wore one on the debit in Virginia. But Texans don't respond as well to guys in ties! I usually wear a branded polo shirt in summer, and a button down long sleeve in cooler months, with branded outerwear when temps get low enough.

I wear light blue polos and khaki's, shirt tucked in with a brown belt to keep the pants where they belong, and comfortable hiking boots. It feels right and people generally respond well to me.

I believe dressing up would cause fewer people to answer the door. Around here, if a man knocks your door wearing a tie, he is likely selling religion.

This is the exact shirt I wear ... sky blue ... I bought three so I can go a few days without showering ... er ... doing the laundry ...

Time to hit the road ...

.... My next car might be a Tesla
(though the blowing up and burning to death thing does give me pause).

Make it a good one, folks!

It was 97* F today and I was still out knocking and using up all sorts of positive mental attitude reserves. Here's a picture of my snapped by the last client today as I was ready to head home ...

In 3 days I've already logged 835 miles and knocked around 50 doors.

I had a good Saturday - it was hot, but the heat was just starting to build and it was Saturday, so folks were home and some were still opening their doors.

Monday and Tuesday I got shut out - hardly talked to anyone and those who did answer the door were not too happy finding me instead of the adult toys from Amazon they had been expecting.

Yesterday I changed from my "shave and a haircut" knock to my good old "cop knock" ala' @Rearden from my FE days. Instead of 11 sharp staccato knocks with the knuckles I reduced it to 9 ... these are upmarket homes, after all.

I spoke to a lot more people and they paid attention.

The heat does things to people.

Another change I made in recent weeks is knocking 4 PM to 8 PM for new leads while trying to set meetings and closing meetings at other times when possible. Starting at the beginning of June and accelerating through the month a lot of people returned (whether willingly or not) to commuting to the office instead of working from the backyard pool deck. Answer rates at the door during the day are about 1/3 to 1/2 what they were in May.

The real sweet spot is 5 to 8 PM ... people are miserable going to work and are happy to be home and happy people are nicer people. The big drawback is I am still working 60 to 90 minutes from home, so it is a drag getting home 9 - 9:30.

I now take Friday's off for the most part. Paperwork, loose ends, occasional client meetings - but no cold doors.

I still knock 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturday schedule.

Money never sleeps if you never stop knocking.
