Understanding the Keyword Pyramid (video)

i like your videos. if you're putting out 5 videos a week, that's gonna pile up fast! after your videos build up, i would suggest you categorize videos by levels of expertise (ie beginners, intermediate, advanced).
i like what you're doing and will be curious to know how your video efforts have improved your own SEO rankings.

Thanks for the information. I don't understand any of this but I wish I did lol. When I'm ready for a website, perhaps I'll give you a call. Thanks again!

Thanks for watching! Good idea about categorizing the videos by level of expertise. I'm trying my best to to stay out of the "advanced" category. :)

Thanks for the information. I don't understand any of this but I wish I did lol.

Let me know if there are specific topics you'd like me to cover. I've got lots of ideas, but I want to make sure I'm hitting on the things everyone is most interested in.

I liked the videos as well. Good contribution!

5 Queries about Keywords:

1. How many phrases to optimize per page? What if they are related? and optimized for other pages?
ex. optimizing a universal life insurance page, and then optimizing supporting pages or universal life insurance articles with the same key word phrase, or should you target different keyword phrases like Universal Life Insurance for your main content page, and Buy Universal Life Insurance for your articles/supporting content pages?

2. Should you go back and redo your content to naturally add in more keywords and phrases (as long as they are smooth)?

3. Whats better for your SEO rank, publishing articles on your website first and submitting them to Article and PR sites? or first to the article/pr sites then post it on your site?

4. With Insurance being highly optimized these days, what level of traffic (search queries) would you recommend for targeting keyword phrases?

5. What level of competition is considered approachable when measuring keyword phrases to pick for content creation? I noticed your excel spreadsheet contained a formula for calculating competition, is it similar to Wordtracker's KEI and KEI3 index?

Appreciate any additional insight!

Let's see if I can answer your questions...

I'll talk more about this in a video soon, but you can group pages around similar or related phrases through cross-linking. This way, as each page builds authority on it's specific phrase, all of the pages gain authority on the more general phrase.

2. Should you go back and redo your content to naturally add in more keywords and phrases (as long as they are smooth)?
Definitely. Always write for humans first, but you should definitely use the phrases you are targeting in the page (especially in the first and last sentence, title tag, header tags, and links to and from the page).

3. Whats better for your SEO rank, publishing articles on your website first and submitting them to Article and PR sites? or first to the article/pr sites then post it on your site?
The first page to gets indexed gets the credit. You can publish articles to article sites first if you want the backlink, or your site first if you want to optimize for that page.

4. With Insurance being highly optimized these days, what level of traffic (search queries) would you recommend for targeting keyword phrases?
I look for phrases generating hundreds (200-800) searches a month, at least initially. Above that and there's likely to be lots of competition. Below that and it's not worth the effort. If you can rank on the first phrase for 10 phrases like this, you'll get some decent traffic to your site. Also, more specific phrases tend to be more relevant to your market and are a sign that the searcher is seriously looking as opposed to casually browsing.

5. What level of competition is considered approachable when measuring keyword phrases to pick for content creation? I noticed your excel spreadsheet contained a formula for calculating competition, is it similar to Wordtracker's KEI and KEI3 index?
You want the least competition possible. There's always going to be competition, and in some markets/lines there's more than others, so I really can't give a hard and fast number. It's definitely not getting any easier, though as the search engines prioritize local sites more, there are more opportunities to rank in a specific region.

The formula in my spreadsheet is KEI (KEI=search volume^2/competition). KEI3 is a better formula for sites doing heavy-hitting SEO for very competitive phrases, but for mid level competition and mid level SEO effort, KEI3 doesn't give enough of the picture. If you're targeting phrases like "health insurance" and are already ranking for other mid-high traffic keywords, use KEI3. If you're targeting phrases like "health insurance quotes texas", use KEI.

Well I cannot wait for your next video. If search engines are now utilizing local SEO more, thats good for upcomers I figured.

Would you recommend submitting the article on your site first, then making a redo with unique writing and submitting the unique redo to the pr sites and linking it back? I am worried that I am sacrificing temporary traffic for long term traffic if i post my content on an online article database with high PR.

As always Aaron, thanks for feedback.

thanks for information, not too many people understand the difference between exact keyword and wide keyword match.
