I had an interesting appointment yesterday. Something new happened which can be of help in the future.
I wrote a husband and wife new policies about 10 monhs ago. At the time she didnt qualify with Foresters but her husband did. I got her approved with a different company with a modified policy. I told her to call me back in 10 months and I could get her approved on a level which I did about 3 weeks ago. I bumped her from 10K to 15K. She called me a couple of days ago stating she wanted me to bump her husbands policy from a 10 to 15K as well.
When I got there he had gained some weight over the past year. he now weights about 250 and is 5' 8" tall. I gave them the new figures and they were happy but I was trying to get them to go to 20K, not 15. I started talking about his and my health as I have had 5 heart caths int he past year. I stressed the importance of him to get regular checkups as he said he never sees the doctor. His wife has had some major issues in the past and is in decent health now.
I stressed to him how important it is for guys our age to check blood pressure and cholesterl levels to get a good read on our conditions. He said he hadnt had it done in 3 or 4 years. His wife has a heart monitor and went and got it and we checked her husband. His blood pressure was 165/95.
I then stressed how he should go in and get a complete physical for his own well being. He also bumped his policy to 25K.
I talk about my health with most of my clients because I think it helps them understand why they need to have life insurance and the importantce of getting it now rather than waiting. I am thinking I should buy a blood pressure meter and carry it with me in the car for future show and tell type situatiions. I have people telling me how healthy they are all the time when we can see they are grossly overweight and its a pretty safe bet they have extremely high blood pressue levels.
