What are the important things to look for or consider when selecting a web hosting service provider.

Thank you for all your kind replies.

Re: Web Hosting Question ..!

Don't focus on price, focus on customer service...Zillions of hosting companies out there that offer everything for a minimal price, but what matters is when their servers go down how they treat their clients...

We have used crystaltech.com in the past and we recommend them even to our worst enemy.

Re: Web Hosting Question ..!

I've been looking around for a hosting company myself to host several web sites and after looking at some of the options out there I've settled on JustHost as well. They have 24/7 live technical support, two different website builders with some nice templates to choose from and they will host unlimited domains. They don't charge per domain/website you host there so you can have as many websites there as you want for one low price. They include registration of one website in their price so if you are going to be getting more domains than that I recommend 1and1. They are a large company like GoDaddy, but their prices are lower in many cases and 1and1 provides free whois privacy and GoDaddy charges extra for it. You can register your site domains at 1and1 and have the domains hosted at JustHost.

Re: Web Hosting Question ..!

While searching web hosting providers I come across a lot of "Unlimited Space and Bandwidth on a shared server" and a few others like Godaddy specifying the Space and Transfer rate (eg. 10GB space / 300GB transfer -economy package of Godaddy or 150GB/1500 -Deluxe plan).

My question is which is better (Obviously unlimited seems to be better, but then why are the others competing with a limited space against the unlimited in the same price range ...some times the unlimited is even cheaper). Any thoughts on this?

Best Regards.

Re: Web Hosting Question ..!

With most hosting plans or companies you can adjust your plan. Don't start off unlimited...Unless you need it. I had unlimited for years and didnt need it. A lot of money was wasted. SO I downgraded to the middle plan and I'm not even using 20% of that plan. If at any time you see you need something bigger, just upgrade..

Just something to think about..

Think of it this way, a hard drive only has so much disk space and there is only so much **** you can stuff into a sock (don't ask). Some providers with section of so much allotted space per plan and would rather have 100 accounts that can only have 1GB (just a random example) while other providers would rather have 100 accounts with unlimited storage space hoping that 80% are only using 20% of the space and 20% is using 80% of the space. So if you are on a server that has unlimited disk space, while you may not take advantage of it, someone else will which is doing to have both a direct and indirect effect on your site. Hope that helps...

Thank you all for your kind responses

Few more questions ..

Is it better when selecting a Web hosting plan to go with the 3yr plan or just the 1 yr plan. The 3yr plans are much cheaper but what if their service is substandard with large server down times and inferior customer support.

How much matter will fit in a 10GB space so to speak so that I'll have an idea of what I need, is it just the matter of typing the info. and checking the file size in windows or is there more to it.

Regards.
