I only paid $13,500 for my website framework and content management system. And then I wrote 100% of the content myself; and I am still writing and rewriting it.

And I just hired a conversion consultant to discuss some minor possible disconnects to increase conversions more.

It is an ongoing expensive process to be competitive.

I had 3 independent consultants review my site along with 7 sites that I considered competitors. All 3 consultants chose my site as the best and felt I had no true competition in this regard. Which I found interesting and surprising. Thus, the upshot is whatever you do from a website perspective make it just a little bit better than your competition on all accounts. And keep reviewing it, and testing it and improving content. It really can't be done cheap. Cookie cutter will always be cookie cutter. Someone has to remember you. You have to stand out. And I still have a ton of work to do.

Um... what is the URL of the site? I'd like to see it and I'm sure others would as well. We're all here to learn from each other, right?

Al, you have been to my site. Remember, we had the conversion about Brandeis University. At least I think we did.

Sorry, I just don't remember... but I don't remember what I had for dinner last night either!

I'd never heard of Refinery before. I'm going to spend some time checking it out. I like Wordpress but find that it is somewhat limited. On the other end Drupal is overkill for most sites.

I studied Ruby on Rails about seven years ago when it first came out of the box... I thought of it as a code foundation for my JAYA123 service... but as with so many other code foundations, the tool is often harder to learn than working on the problem you are trying to solve.

I also don't know if most shared hosts support Ruby on Rails. Anyway, thanks or posting your site (which is very professional looking) and info on Refinery. I'll check it out today.

I use Emerald to handle my website. Content is automatically sent to my Broker Dealer for approval and they are cutting edge on Social Website integration.

I don't know anything about Wordpress, Drupal or anything. All I will say is a tech *** like me was up and running in 2 seconds with Refinery CMS. It is so easy to use. Maybe everything is easy to use, but part of me does not want to try something else and get frustrated.

You can get a free domain name, free web hosting and a lot of nice free templates from intuit.com

Then, you can go to google apps and get free email using your domain name. Takes a little time to set everything up but most importantly ... ITS ALL FREE!

Let me know what you think of mine.

I did my site and I am not even licensed yet. Its still a work in progress though .. taking the test next week and then hopefully will be full force.

As far as free sites go I dig it, but if a company has wix, yola, intuit, or anything like that on it's page I instantly wonder how legitimate they are. Intuit is fairly subtle about it though and that's a plus.
