When do you quit actively quit pursuing a lead?

I no longer purchase leads from vendors for the most part other than a MP pay per lead deal I have going on as a test. However, I have a clip board in my car of the remaining 60 or so FB leads that I have yet to see eyeball to eyeball. I knock when I am close to one of them, and most I have knocked enough times to know I am close to them, i.e. I may not remember their address but I know exactly where their house is - I don't need the address to find it.

I won't make a special trip after probably the fourth or fifth knock (assuming at least one knock was between 9AM and 12 PM, one between 12PM and 5PM, and one between 5PM and 8PM). I do note both date and time when I scribble my notes on the back of the lead card. But if I haven't seen them eyeball to eyeball and I'm nearby, I will keep knocking them until I do see them.

Relearning this process. Some good responses to a very important question.

Currently buying leads. With a new drop each week, I'm beginning to think that working on the fresh one's is much more financially sound than trying to find the dead beats. (They may pay their premiums like they respond to attempts to get a hold of them.)

I'm still trying to get my arms around this one. Before I purchased on an on going basis, I squeezed the heck out of each lead. Can't make lemonade with out the juice... but now I don't have the time to squeeze each lead that hard.

I was told once A Lead is a Lead till it "ain't no more" I am an appointment setter-been doin it for over 10 yr.'s now and i NEVER give up on a lead except when they say the 4 magic words-Do Not Call Back. Gotta honor that cause we don't need trouble. But, i like others below i keep a file of what i call NR's (Non Reachable's) and while after a period of time while i no longer pursue these as robustly, i will circle back to them from time to time (maybe i need to fill one or 2 more slots for a day in a certain area etc.) and yes i have reached many eventually like this. So my advice, stick them to the side after a reasonable period of time but don't EVER give up. One man's opinion here...

That's not true. They simply block your # if you call 2-3 times knowing its a solicitor. Many you'll never get in touch with. Cell phone carriers also have screening software.

I used to figure I would give up once they die or once they buy as it was hard to replace a cemetery plot; but in final expense even if they buy (from someone else) if they will still talk and have an open mind they could still be fair game. If they start contradicting themselves acting all neurotic and even look at me wrong I would smile and leave. The crazies normally show themselves early in the game. Perhaps they just need to be someone else's crazies.

For me, if they need to be sold, I have one foot headed for the door. I forget who said I don't talk to disinterested people' but that is me.

I am nice about it now. When I was younger not so much.
