Who Only Works Appointments and Makes a Great Living?

In a way that I interpreted as being self grandiose he said he went out to "make friends" and did it the "Old Fashion" way.

The intent is either to make friends or close deals.

I guarantee none of the top producers on this forum have the goal of "making new friends" when they leave their home to write FE.

That may be a shocking to you, and hard for you to understand, but that is what makes them top producers.

The only reason an FE agent would not use leads is because they couldn't afford them. You guys try and include other life experiences into selling FE. They don't apply. You may think they should but they don't.

There are many naive and "grown ass men" on here that have many opinions, but no facts.

Don't bash the Settlers videos and then stick up for somebody else's goofy advice.

I now understand your "friendless" comment, and that puts it in a whole different light. I agree that I have never made a call, canvas, referral, lead, etc. for the purpose of making a friend. If it turns out that way, fine but I call to make a sale.

Read the thread on the videos again.. You won't find any bashing by me. I said that some of his comments were "old school" but when you are my age, that is certainly not bashing.

1)people do not answer their phones. 2) they do not want to commit to an appointment, they have never committed to anything in their life's. 3) Even if an appointment is formed the odds of them standing you up and you getting porched are roughly 25 percent.... A dm lead is nothing more than someone expecting something in the mail.

hmm I don't know, this analysis seems more emotional based than factual.

-0% answer the phones.
-0% commit to an appointment
-100% have never committed to anything in their lives
-25% will stand up appointments

If you splashed in a few decimal points or fractions in your percentages I'd feel more comfortable that it's based off a large sample size that reasonable effort was made to find the answers to support the bold claims.

The response rate would literally be .005 if it said an insurance agent will be coming to your house to see what you qualify for...

I'm not sure I follow your line of logic as to how cold (or warm with a lead) knocking solves the problem of .995 of people sending in a lead won't want you to knock on their door. Have you sold other product lines? Are you happy with fe?

It is funny how working leads has progressed over the years. When I started, I never heard of anyone working direct mail. The preferred way to prospect referrals folllwed by cnavassing.

Sometime in the early 80s I met fellow who had a fistful of leads for McMinn County. He was from Chattanooga and was tring to locate the adresses on the leads. often, he would come by my office and I would give him directions.... this was before GPS. He worked for one of the "Doctors" company.. perhaps Associated Doctors?.. Everybody with them worked leads and they always door knocked them. The number of agents woking leads grew and they continued to door knock. They all said that calling the folks was just a waste of time and money.

It wss in the early 90s when I first met an agent who worked leads by appointment. The other lead gus thought he was nuts and would soon wash out.
Now, it seems all the very heavy hiters all work by appointment .

However, there is a new group coming on. They work the leads entirely by phone and never see the client....... Wonder what is next?

It will never work. People do not shop for and buy insurance. Insurance has to be sold. Oh.... Wait.... :err: That AARP agent is door knocking me just like that Globe girl did.
