Worst Case Scenario... Help!

I'm going fully into being an agent for an agency in Pennsylvania. I'm coming off unemployment insurance, and am going to give 100%.

HOWEVER, once the OEP ends, I'm a little nervous that I'll be able to make a critical $300 a week in other plans I can sell, and, if so, may need to go back on unemployment.

Does anybody know how somebody would go from a self-imployed insurance agent to unemployment?

I'm not giving up, but I always like to have my bases covered, as I know the statistics of insurance agents in the first year.

Thanks

To my knowledge if you are self-employed there ain't no such thing as unemployment insurance. If your work for someone there is an employer and that employer pays unemployment taxes on you. If there ain't no employer there is none. Someone correct me if I am wrong or if other states differ????????

I agree. From what i understand the only way to get unemployment is to have verified income from an employer who has been paying unemployment tax on you.
You sound like you're not sure this will work, maybe you should look for working for someone else first?

The insurance business is tough; there are many ups and downs. I will not go into the stats, as you have already said that you know them.

As far as having a back-up plan in case things go south; I will give you my two cents.

If you go into this business already having an escape route, more than likely you will fail. Many people do not fully realize what is involved with running their own business.

I say this not to scare you, but so that will have the right information. Most people fail in this business because it takes a person who is truly motivated and who has a great deal of discipline. There is also a great deal of luck, being at the right place at the right time; and I have found this statement to be VERY true.

"The harder I work the more lucky I get" If you possess these traits you should do fine, if not re-evaluate.
Happy hunting and good luck.
