25 Mile Radius

I agree, if they are telling you to stop prospecting where it is working for you, I would tell them to pack sand.

You should see if you can duplicate your efforts as an indy, and get the heck out of there.

You will be better off for it.

What state are you in? If they have you on a nice cushy base that you're comfortable with and don't mind making what you're making than you can take it easy, but at the very least I'd consider jumping to being indy if you think you can consistently generate a health amount of business. When I was running a p&c shop we did mostly personal lines and probably 90% of the book of business was within a 10 minute drive of the office, but even if someone needed a lot of work done they almost NEVER came into the office. I have a hard time imagining why you'd need to visit your clients more than once a quarter, but I could be wrong.

On a slightly different note, they do the business the same way they did in 1970? Good thing not much has changed.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I have a lot to think about this weekend? No big base salary a very small one and my commission split is I receive 35% and the agency gets 65%. I will be on commission only in a year. I am in southwest Mi. Thanks again

I think if you reversed that question and asked which ones do suck.....you would have a giant list. I am yet to find a lead company that actually delivers as they advertise....some come a little closer than others but not one of them has provided what they say they do. In comparison, if I, as an agent, say that I provide you with 100,000 dollars in cancer insurance and when you have the misfortune of cancer, I only deliver 60,000.....that would be wrong and illegal and I am out of business...but for some reason there are still a lot of lead companies that continue to operate with the same "variance" day after day......good luck with this one.....lol

Owner wants to meet with me this morning to discuss this 25 mile radius in more detail? Can't wait

It will be interesting to see what he decides. Small business owners with few employees make non sensical decisions all of the time.

I worked for a guy that had a small restaurant/bar/grill/video poker place many years ago, that extended credit to people that were consistently writing him bad checks.

He would leave me in charge of the place after school and on weekends, and when I would call him to ask if he wanted to keep giving these assholes credit, he always said yes and had thousands in uncollected debt that was still piling up when I left.

Well the meeting didn't go great. He said I can write business outside the radius but 80% of the business needs to be in the 25 mile radius. Does anyone know where I could write business insurance in MI for a certain split? And not be told where I can write? Thanks again!
