25 Mile Radius

Thanks Bricko I will be planning here in the next two months. Since they have given me 60 days to find a place to live. I beleive this agency is still doing business as it is still the 80's. The owner has said he does not plan on using the web for marketing.

Hey, look on the bright side.

1) You have 60 days to set up your new contracts.

2) You know how NOT to run an insurance agency.

That's better than a lot of people already.

What would be the best way to get Commercial Insurance Appts?

Hi Philly,

Going indy for life and health can be done fairly easily -- you can get appointed, you do not need a lot of capital, you can work from home, your expenses are low -- but things are not that easy on the Commercial P & C side. I think trying to start your own Commercial P&C agency in the next 60 days will be impossible.

If you want to stay with Commercial P & C, shoot for your own agency as a long term goal. Search and post in the P &C forum and listen to the advice of agents that have a lot of Commercial P & C experience with the products and size/types of businesses to which you wish to market.

As you have been advised, become familiar with the terms of your non-compete.

I recommend looking for a producer position at another agency (in compliance with your non-compete -- I imagine you can not work at another agency that is very close to your current employer) until you are ready to go out on your own. If you can sell as you have indicated, I'm sure you will have no problem getting a better job with a better comission split.

Good luck and let us know how things end up for you.

This is my first post, but I have been lurking and reading the forums for some time now. I am in the process of going indy and transitioning to life insurance from being a P&C company/agency wage slave. I appreciate everyone's input and willingness to share their knowledge here. Thanks everyone!

Thank you all for your advice. I have started getting my own contracts for life and health. I not totally sure what I am going to do on the P&C side. I closed over $20,000 of business insurance the past 1 1/2 weeks and realized that I need to make the move now. Thanks again

Good luck to you! I know you made the right choice.

Keep us updated on how the move goes. Have you talked to the owner of your current agency yet?
