Becoming a State Farm Agent

Even with all of the different contracts out there, no SF Agent owns their book of business and it is exactly as stated above, they will divide the book up or hold it for the next agent selected for that posting.

Now there may be a chance that someone the agent knows can position themselves to be the favored candidate, but there is no guarantee they will be chosen.

+1 Exactly right.

As for me,
I am down to $7500 from my $50k debt spin...it's amazing what slashing expenses/payroll/marketing can do. I would not have been this fortunate if I was not given a book of business. The book wasnt huge, but was standard max assignment for any new agent (some people do get much less..ouch and leadership coming back into production get much more..but on the new contract...ouch)..going to continue riding the wave of netting 2-3k each month and in a few months be completely debt free, then I can look on to a new endeavor.

At my stage in life it was an experience...I was able to turn my ship around before It got real ugly.

Glad to hear you survived the meat grinder without losing any limbs, houses or spouses. I assume you mean you are going to do something else like go independent?

I have read many of the posts here and have a question. What if you have a really good friend who has been a SF agent for many years and is verrrry successful who wants to retire and pass on the agency to you. Has said that he wants to carve out part of his book and pass it on to you. He owns the building and will give you all of those things as well. Do you run or do you jump in?

what does he want from you........

Great insight, thanks for sharing! What do you know about the Las Vegas market?

State Farm agents out in the Las Vegas market are doing well. They are leading the boards on raw new production. My understanding is that State Farm has done a very good job on pricing auto out there. If you are going for agency with the farm it might not be a bad place to start an agency. Forclosure market makes it a little bit of a crap shoot, especially with all these Canadians buying up the forclosures and making it difficult for you to mutliline any auto on the household.
