BECOMING INDEPENDENT

You might want to look into setting up your own website. Mine was designed utilizing templates from my host and runs me less that $10 a month.

Thread hijack.

If I understand your original question, you are looking to move out of a captive P & C Company and want to get indie P & C contracts.

1. The first thing you need to worry about is the contract you signed with your captive. What are your outs? Do you have a non compete or a non solicit? Hire an attorney.

2. I would advise contracting direct with an independent company. Don't go with a cluster or shared commission arrangment. With that being said, your book is small and you are going to need to come up with a great sales presentation on why company X will want to appoint you.

3. Do some careful cashflow analysis to start up and make it for a year.

I am assuming that most of your book is Home and car and not commercial.

More that likely, unless you get lucky, you will only be able to get appointments with some second tier companies, and if you make it with them, the others will follow down the road.
