Best all around FE company to write with?

For FE, I write mostly LBL, then Central Security. Between those two, I can handle 90+% of my cases. I just got a contract with Sons of Norway for my GI biz, but I'll keep my Gerber contract in case I get somebody that needs to draft from a card.

What is Central's niche? Never heard of them?

Central Security is a regional carrier only admitted in 6 states. Their best niche is a whole life product for $16k - $50k. It can be written to age 85, but rates are competitive up to about age 60. Tough to beat their rate on that for a 50 year old woman in reasonably good health. The lower face plans ($15k and down) have great rates for about 40 years old and younger. They're a little more traditional in underwriting, not a yes-no app. But pretty simplified issue. They're generally not competitive at older ages.

Another niche is that they'll often take somebody on their graded plan (3 years: 25/50/75/100% of face) that would normally need GI. Usually higher premium than a GI from elsewhere, but many prospects choose it over the GI if both are explained.

They also have a "middle ground" policy for people who can't qualify for standard, but aren't so unhealthy they need graded. That policy is immediate full benefit, but priced the same as the graded policy. Early this year I had a prospect that wasn't going to get standard anywhere (I've forgotten why), so I was quoting a Gerber GI. She was adamant about not wanting any waiting period. So, I thought I'd check with the head underwriter at CSLIC, who told me she could approve her at the "Special" rating. The premium was actually twice as much as the Gerber rate, but she was happy to pay it if it meant first day coverage. Not the first time that's happened, either.

Otherwise they have some quirky niches, like people who want to mail money orders (they'll direct bill monthly). They'll also take someone with no Soc Sec number, which comes up on occasion.

If we're talking about the same company, they do keep active licenses in some other states. But they currently only have products admitted in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri. I know this because I handle all of their out of state orphan policyholders that call or write in for service. I obtained non-res licenses in those states for that purpose (except Arkansas, just because I've never gotten a lead from there.)

Oxford Life is definitely a great option for face to face production. They have an instawrite that allows you to breeze through an app and know their eligibility in 5 minutes. I would highly suggest writing paper apps due to their e-app having an email requirement. If you do telesales, I'd say American Amicable or Prosperity Life.

Oxford is one of my favorite FE companies BUT he was asking about if you only wrote one company which is the best all around. Oxford would not be a realistic choice for that due to they have preferred or NOTHING. No Standard. No graded. No GI. Nothing. They have a great preferred product but if a guy just wants one company in his bag that is not going to be the one.
