Dave Ramsey Endorsed Local Provider

Bluemarlin,

First, I took some time to go back and read some of your previous posts. In them it appears that you claim to be a Christian. Given that, I find it peculiar that you cannot answer my simple questions forthrightly. Why the game? You are the one that appears to have said that Ramsey ELP's can sell life insurance - but term insurance only. I am trying to clarify that.

I am a Christian. My son-in-law, who I referenced in my first posting, is a Christian. I am concerned for him because he teaches Ramsey's material to people in his church.

Once again, here is the reason I am asking the question, as I explained in my first posting on this thread:

As a result of the discussion going on at this board, my son-in-law who teaches Ramsey's material at his church, sent a letter to Ramsey making some recommendations on how Ramsey could ensure that his ELP's are offering the most competitive term product to his listeners.

In response, Ramsey's staff indicated that under no circumstance can ELP's sell life insurance - life insurance is only sold through one Ramsey advertising affiliate: Zander Insurance

Can anyone here, who has signed an ELP agreement, confirm one way or the other, whether those agreements prohibit the sale of life insurance to Ramsey referrals.

What other subjects does your son teach? I'm interesting in hearing real-life examples of Ramsey's methodologies in practice.

I do not have an ELP agreement so this is hearsay; but I have been told by an agent who is an ELP that he is not allowed to sell ANY life insurance. It is his impression as well as mine that Dave Ramsey is an equal partner with Jeff Zander's insurance agency. They sell term life. Dave makes it sound on the air that they are the ONLY place to buy life insurance.

On Dave's show he moves smoothly in and out of paid endorsments and his regular program. It's hard to tell whan he is pitching a product and when he is doing his show. He goes right from telling you that Mutual Funds are the only investment to be in right into telling you that his Royal Jelly will cure your baldness, iron-poor-blood, and bad breath.

That is how come guys like him and Paul Harvey are great for their sponsers...it sounds like they are just recommending products to friends.

As to hearsay, there has been hearsay on this board that contradicts that. In that regard perhaps someone can explain this web page for me:

http://www.jghfs.com/services.html

Note the Dave Ramsey ELP promotion on the bottom left of the page, and under "Products Offered":
  • Whole Life Insurance
  • Term Life Insurance

That website showing the guy to be an ELP without explanation of what type and the specific territory is in contrast to what is allowed by Ramsey, as it was explained to me.

I heard Ramsey on the radio a few days ago asking for testimonials from students who recently graduated and did so without debt or a check from mom & dad, something else (can't recall what) . . . AND "testimonials from agents who used to sell WHOLE LIFE until they got their calculators out and discovered what a RIP OFF it is and wanted to put their testimonial on a CD or DVD."

Is this guy Art Williams son or what?

I have talked with Marlin about the DR ELP program and shared with him the fact that I contacted the DR folks several years ago (before the ELP program). I was told in no uncertain terms that I could not be part of the team since I had sold whole life and would still be willing to sell it (regardless of the justification).

I can't say if DR has tempered his position on ELP's or not but I dare say an ELP who sells a DR referral whole life may well be given their walking papers.

You look at his site, listen to his show, and it quickly becomes apparent this guy is a money making machine with multiple streams of income. Nothing short of brilliant.

I have no doubt that Dave Ramsey would be unhappy if an ELP sold a referral whole life insurance. To say he is a term-ite would be an understatement. But that is not the point I am probing.

The question is, does anything prevent an ELP from selling term life insurance?

Some say yes, others say no.

From this web page, and others I have found, it would seem to me that consumers would conclude that a Dave Ramsey endorsed provider is "endorsed". And I find it hard to believe if someone was endorsed for health insurance, and also sold term life insurance, that a consumer would be expected to discern any distinction in the endorsement.

When I first heard Dave Ramsey recommend his ELP's several years ago I had no idea money was changing hands, and I venture to say that many of his listeners still have no idea he's getting paid. Not to say he shouldn't get paid, it's just kind of blurry where the line is drawn.

He does seem to hide that fact when he speaking on show, kind of deceptive since he likes to use the term, "We Need Volunteers".
