Domain Names

Is it worth buying other domain names and having them point to your website?
If so, is there extra seo work that needs to be done?

If cooldomain.com sends people directly to yoursite.com it's generally considered to be of no SEO value. Google looks directly at yoursite.com and ignores cooldomain.com. It may pass some link juice on if www.cooldomain.com had links pointing to it, but that type of stuff changes more often than I keep up with.

The exact match domain (EMD) strategy has taken a hit. Allegedly it was a big part of this most recent domain and I know from personal experience my site took a significant hit on the last go around, I believe at least in part to the fact that my site does have the term "marketing lists" in it.

A very good domain name is GOLD, and can create "instant trust" with the consumer.
Just look at the two domain names
1. Retirement Planning Specialist (dot)C0M
2. JoeRetirePlanner123(dot)C0M

If you were looking for a "Retirement Planning Specialist", which domain name creates trust? If someone searched for "Retirement Planning Specialist" you would have an exact match, and the consumer would probably click on your link before #2, and you paid ZERO for the LEAD. Great Specific Domain names still work.

The only flaw in that logic is that EMD isn't always going to work. I have some sites that do well with EMD, but some actually get hurt by it.
