Financial Representative Intern: Northwestern Mutual

Hello,

First of all thanks to everyone for the great info provided. I want to explain my situation and background and see what advice you guys can give me.

I am in the middle of College, earning a BSBA with specializations in Finance and Marketing. I have a good chance of getting a job as a NWM Financial Rep Intern. I basically will have all the duties that a normal rep does. Now my father has worked in this industry years and has owned his own agencys while also being at VP level handling commercial transportation at bigger companies. He currently is VP of Transportation at a company that writes about 500 million a year in just trucking. What im trying to say here is I have been around and have learned some things from him and feel that if I were to take this opportunity I would have good guidance.

I pretty much am looking for info on lead generation. I know NWM teaches the refferel system, and yes I will obviously do that as they provide a good product and I know many in my family/friends could benefit from it. I know that after a few weeks those will dry up and I will need to start some of my own lead generation. What do all of you reccomend? I'm planning on cold calling small business (0-4) employees and also make personal cold calls. I also would love to do some direct mail but I am not really sure what NWM policy on this is. Basically my goal is to sell 10+ lives in 3 months at a minimum I already have some business committed(2-3) policies even before I start.

Sorry for the long winded post but just hoping to gather some advice from some of the best in the business!

TS
