Not to get off subject, but I spent some time last night working on making a sitemap from my website. I went to the google.com/webmaster thing and proved I Own my website(took me 30 mins to figure out how to do this) and next I uploaded the sitemap that xsitepro2 made for me. I was able to tell it which pages I want to be crawl and which ones I didnt.


I found that the google/webmaster tool was very helpful.


Can you tell us about sitemaps, meta tags and all that stuff. So far the sitemap did help me.



Okay, SEO guys, can you talk about sitemaps. I just did a google on my website and it did help to index it and show up better already. It is also showing me what I did wrong and google tells me what I can do to improve it.

This is a great tool without doubt to get a site indexed quickly. For beginners or agents that are too busy to look into organic lead production this positively can't hurt.
Is it going to make you number one for any word besides "fart magic"? Doubtful, but did you really think that it would? If you are not indexed with these sites though, you should consider getting someone to help you with your organic marketing.

I sent the link to several people whom I know to be SEO experts and they each said that they would not use it to run this script because it will cause more SEO harm than good in that Google knows all about these tricks and gimmicks.

Unfortunately, none of them explained much more than that.

Google has simple and reliable metrics on how many backlinks can a web site achieve in a period of time. You can't naturally get 1000 links in first month. No way. If you did get them - you are spamdexing. If your website is real and backed by a real company, it will be sandboxed for something between 1 week and 3 years. If it isn't backed by anything - ban. It is well known thing is SEO world. Professional SEOs (I'm not a SEO, I'm programmer) discuss thing like "how many quality links is safe to add to a new website". Good figure is 10 links first month, 15 links 2nd and 3rd months, and after that continuous increase # of links by 15%-50%. Gray and black SEOs use such services to ruin competitors SERP (called "sinking").


P.S. I hope one day an agent will tell me - boy, let me tell you some basics of the insurance business.
