Health Sherpa

I enjoy looking up providers on Anthem.com.

They list 253 networks, anf if you are good you can get through it about 2 hours, if you don't have a coffee break!:D:D:D

The carriers update the website on a monthly basis.

Calling the doc's office is the best choice BUT the client needs to know what to say. Calling and saying "Do you take Blue Cross" is a stupid question. (Which is probably what they say). The client needs specific instructions. "Do you take BCBS Blue Advantage?" (This is for Texas). If the client says "Do you take the BCBS HMO?" they are probably going to get the wrong answer, because there are 2 different BCBS HMO's in Texas.

There was huge issue in the beginning with the BCBSTX providers. First issue was the Blue Advantage vs HMO Blue confusion. Second issue was providers turning away ANYONE whose ID number started with "9", stating that they didn't take Obamacare, even when they were BCBS PPO contracted providers. I made a ton of those calls to doc offices. If claims were being rejected, after the doc offices said "yes" that's BS.

Humana's new HMOx networks were my biggest headache for 2014, KGM.
Doc's office said "Sure we take it".
Search engine verified that fact.
EOB told a much different story!

Aetna has a different network for every different plan type this year.
UHC Compass network in Austin area is royally messed up. Provider search results cannot be trusted YET.

Ugggghhh

Humana is not competitive here.

And UHC is just a disaster. The EPO/HMO decision was just stupid, IMO

Someone tell me where I'm wrong, or how I can do it better.

It may sound cumbersome, but since all these steps can be done with me in person, they can also be done independently as well. My clients prefer - and I do as well - that we work in the same room. They on their laptop. Me on mine.

For my clients that are further away, it can be done independently.

Bob, do you use join.me? It's a wonderful way to share your computer with the client. I think most of us use it. It saves you from all those face-to-face appointments. You can call the client on the phone, give them a 9 digit code, and they will see your computer screen as you go through the whole process. You can even give them mouse control to put in their own password and to digitally sign the application.
