Healthcare Sharing Ministries

Well Tater, I'm serious...maybe this is our new market...selling the Ministry Medishare. It is popular I gotta give them that and may become even more popular as Obamacare will be unaffordable.

in my opinion its a scam and I cant sell what I cant stare up at god at night and wonder if he is gonna start wagging his finger at me for being a bad boy

This goes back 20 years or more. Some organizations that have done this found themselves in court for fraud and selling insurance without a license. Others faced the IRS that said all those "gifts" were taxable. It's basically an idea where you pay a low membership fee, then members submit their medical bills, and all the other members give them gifts (of money) to pay the bills.

One of my insurance clients cancelled his health insurance because the $310 a month premium was too high (2004). He enrolled in this Healthcare Ministry plan for $165 a month. Less than a year later, got a knee replacement. The Ministry plan paid $6,000 of his $14,000 bill. (The bill was originally higher but the Ministry got it reduced.) The health insurance that he cancelled was a $1,500 deductible 100% plan.

yes they are exempt as I understand it

You're one smart TaterPeeler!

From: Christian Healthcare Ministries: Frequently asked questions

"Anyone who is a member of a health cost sharing ministry is exempted from penalty under the national health care bill signed into law on March 23, 2010. Christian Healthcare Ministries meets each of the qualifications set forth for health cost sharing ministries in the U.S. health care legislation.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruling on June 28, 2012, does not alter CHM members' ability to meet each other's health care costs. The ministry will continue to provide affordable, quality health cost sharing support."

LOL...HealthGuy, you would probably have to get your commissions from the agent "sharing" pool on a first-come-first-serve basis, and be required to tithe at least 10% of your gross back to the flock's leadership for redistribution.

Can't say about MediShare, but I did talk with them and a few others maybe 3 - 4 yrs ago about their "program".

I am very familiar with the concept as I participated in underwriting stop loss insurance on a similar organization many years ago and was approached by a few others hoping to duplicate the efforts of Good Samaritan.

Some use a backup PPO while others simply try to negotiate a discount . . . AFTER the fact with NO LEVERAGE.

The Obamacare regs are unsound enough from an actuarial standpoint; I can't imagine how bad these look from that viewpoint.

I've been contacted to sell a Medishare type coverage. I'm waiting for them to send me more details. Them told me it is compliant with ObamaCare and I can sell it in most states without a licence. They pay 75.00 a app. and people can enroll on their website.
