I don't see why hybrid cars would deserve a discount on insurance. They have complicated electrical systems, the batteries are so expensive people will sell the cars prior to replacing them. In my opinion the price to insure them should be more expensive than a standard vehicle.

Last August I quoted a couple in LA that had two hybrid vehicles. One was about 8 years old. The other was brand new. Both had good driving records and they could verify low annual miles. The price was $4,500.00 per year for two cars and two drivers.

Ding. You hit the nail on the head. Typically they are more expensive. Why? The ones that run off more electric are meant to be lighter. Auto companies started removing lots of reinforced steel. When the vehicles are in an accident medical bills tend to be higher. The newer hybrids are doing well w/ running off gas and electric, but they parts still aren't as common as the typical automobile so that raises the physical damage coverage.

No buddy. They are not giving discounts on regular cars, why you think they are going to give the discount on hybrid car. OR you can convince them that you have a bad driving experience may be then.

you guys are argueing against a brick wall,

An insurance company isnt going to discount something unless history shows them it is cheaper to fix/repair.

Maybe they see a correlation between these types of cars to safer drivers?

Really not something to argue about.

Who's arguing? The first three responses said it's going to be more and do not deserve a discount.

Yeah i didn't feel as if there was an argument ... haha. I'm an eco-friendly person, I actually drive a Hybrid, and there are a good number of independent mechanics that have the parts to fix my car...its not as if i have to go directly through my dealer. It doesn't cost any extra for me to fix the car, but I am aware that Hybrid cars do not give off much noise which has led to accidents because people don't hear the car coming.....thats one issue. it was just an idea that came to my mind to entice people on purchasing hybrid cars to help control the amount of emissions getting poured into the air. you fellas make some good points though

but I am aware that Hybrid cars do not give off much noise which has led to accidents because people don't hear the car coming.....

What??????

People cant here a cop or firetruck siren, what makes you think they can HEAR a car approaching?

I have never yielded to a car I heard, I SEE a car out of the corner of my eye maybe.....

Believe it or not: Hartford offers a 5% discount for hybrids and has been since 2009. An article that came out this morning also says they're going to give the same discounts to electric vehicles.

The Hartford to Offer Electric Vehicle Discount

of course, "discount" is a buzzword for customers. a company could be offering a 50% discount as long as they're over-rating the vehicle by just as much. ;)

Get your ears checked. You should be able to hear a car coming. There is engine noise and road noise. Unless there already is a lot of noise, you should definitely hear it.
